I searched for a thread like this so I hope I am not repeating. We have all these other show us threads. My fiance has a passion for old out boards. We have 5 now. All are different and before the mid 50's. The one below is the largest. I have to appologize because i can;t remeber what year it is. Duh. But anyway I find it to be a nice looking motor. We have a small aluminum boat that is also from the 50's. So lets see your water crafts!

Hi Folks,

Epr25, that is a beautiful old Kiekhaefer (Mercury) outboard! I am in the process of rebuilding a 3.5 hp Wizzard that I used as a kid in the 'sixties. Needless to say, parts have been difficult to locate, but I hope to someday put that restored motor on a wooden, deadrise, Harker's Island skiff.

I love vintage boats and motors. Sadly, though, I have found that "vintage" and "offshore" is not a great combination. While old boats and motors are fun, I would not want to depend on a 'fifties or 'sixties outboard to deliver me safely to shore from a day at the Gulfstream. Instead, I use this boat for offshore, and a Boston Whaler for backwater fishing. Neither boat is very vintage, but they cause me much less worry when there's a lot of water between me and home.

Wow, that's a beauty!

As a teenager, I was interested in boat racing. I read every book in the library on the subject. At the time, the books were circa 1930s-1950s, so I got used to seeing vintage outboards.

I stopped at an outlet mall in Lake Elsinore, where they had a small visitor center near the restrooms. (I wasn't really there to shop.:whistling) On the walls around the visitor center were photos of boat races on Lake Elsinore from decades past. Fantastic.

Not exactly classic, and not exactly a permanent boat, but I may as well share.

Here's a boat I built. It's entirely cardboard and duct tape. Held 2 people and worked like a charm. Took on no water.
