Just a positive thought to start out the day ( and new year)....Think about just how many neglected and unappreciated hats have been rescued from the dustbin of obscurity by members here! I enjoying checking in here first thing every morning just to see all the new goodies that someones just posted. I enjoy seeing how folks are genuinely proud of and excited by what they found... I love that its a real common outlook here that its our responsibility to appreciate and learn more about older hats and share what weve learned. I know Ive been inspired to go hunting "for one of those in my size" more than once. May all our wallspaces continue to diminish with more rescues this year!

WOW. I knew HAS had me bad this past year. You guys always sharing all these great old hats drove me to want more and more. I don't plan on posting pix but trust me when I say " I am a hat addict."lol.
A quick appraisal shows that I purchased 241 hats in 2024. Most of which I've shown y'all...a few I'm still waiting on.
Wow! That might even be more than Max @drmaxtejeda at the height of his powers! For most of us it's not a matter of how many can you buy, but how many (more) can you store? :)

I've not picked up many more hats in 2024 as I've been determinedly sticking to buying only what I will wear rather than collecting. I used to frame that as only what I "need", but..... ha!

2024 saw me acquire two more Daisy Maes (not a style I thought I'd gravitate to when I idly picked up my first Bronson version on a whim, as a novelty, but turns out they are excellent, practical travel hats for hot weather. Easily packed flat in my suitcase for a fortnight in Beijing, where they got worn a lot when off duty, while an Akubra straw served as an office hat). This time, one in brown (the earliest issue colour, from WPG; lacks the leather sweatband I believe it should have, which has the bonus of making it machined washable), and one in green HBT, to add to the blue denim and camo versions I bought in 2023. A rather special cap from a new maker, a few straws (two Stratoliners, one Uni Hemp Traveller, and a Dobbs Homburg). One furfelt fedora from the London Hat Centre. Oh! And one new, dark brown Akubra Fed Deluxe. My original MKIII Fed DLX is still going strong (bought new in early 2008), if a tiny bit past its best, so it's likely to be more of a kickabout hat now.

The Hat Centre Hat is this beauty, which I discussed elsewhere before now:

Here it is in action, keeping my bonce warm in Paris last October:

The green hemp Stratoliner hasn't been worn out yet - though here it is on arrival in the office:

Ditto the Traveller:

The grey Stratoliner got a lot of wear this Summer, both casually with denim, and with a more tailored affair:

The light got away from me with these, but New Custom Cap, which I will post about properly at some point soon:

Well, I managed to locate 32 out of the 36. I think a couple of them maybe at my school.

There are 5 Top Hats in their boxes in front of the sofa.

Right. It helps to pay attention to what you’re reading. As an aside, your 36 from 2024 is the same number as my entire collection, both felts and straws…I’m such a novice!
Was going to say… this group alone would make for a wonderfully impressive entire collection

Here is an interesting question that applies us victims of HAS or otherwise who grow their collections year after years. Do you find that the new hats get preferred treatment in rotation (outside of their debut) or are you partial to certain mainstays…. Or some kinda combination.

Highlights from 2024. Most of these are restorations/rescues and some have moved into my collection and others have been passed on. New for 2024 — I tried my hand at dyeing, hat band making, and replacing sweatbands. Still have a ways to go to build a hat from scratch but the tools and skills I’ve picked up are moving in that direction. Most of what I’ve learned has come from this site and all the helpful tips and support from members here. Thanks to all and have a great 2025!

We all should be organising our photos like Stefan so we can put up thumbnails of a whole heap at once. I was hoping you were going to show us your spoils.
I’m also keen to see the 2024 hauls from @DonR and @VoodooSan.
