Ah yes. Then we talked about this suit several times. It's really great and balanced imo. Some cool details but not cartoonish. Hurry up with your version. We want to see it.

I agree, I've had the idea of having a copy of this made sitting in the back of my mind for a long time.

I'm guessing it's a Donegal Tweed.

What colour are you thinking about, Nick?

Thanks, FFL and TT, I remember that suit now. I didn't remember it being 4 patch pocket, which is why I thought it was another suit. Now I really need to find a copy of Black Cat (because it's a Lugosi film I haven't seen and to see the suit!). I'll be on the lookout for fabric, too.

Beige Donegal tweed would look great

I think it would be easier to find a cloth that wouldn't look good. Personally, I'd stay away from stripes and checks but some of them might even work.

The Song You Gave Me (1933)

Romanian actor Victor Varconi wearing a lovely suit:

Claude Hulbert with some of the widest lapels I've ever seen:

Note how the lapels aren't the same - the one on his right has a much smaller gap between the collar and the peak.

Lester Matthews:

The film makes reference to shirt collars. Noticing her secretary is wearing a stiff celluloid collar, Bebe Daniels taps it and says "Stiff collars? Why don't you wear shirts with collars attached? I like my secretaries to be up to date."

She then has his shirts taken away to have a portion removed from the tails to make soft collars:

Do you think this was done on purpose or just bad tailoring (and nobody cared)? Is he a kind of "quirky" character in the film?

Love the shirt collar story, Two Types. About the gap...maybe it is just an illusion caused by a shadow.

Sporty brits are always a good look too (well back in the days at least)

You can get that separation at the gorge from the stress placed on the lapel from buttoning the jacket. Not saying it's the case here but it does happen.

The character is supposed to be a rich fool, but i doubt if the error on the lapel was on purpose. These low-budget British films don't seem to have paid too much attention to costume.

Most likely it was just bad tailoring that no one noticed.

Not sure about the db without trouser cuffs! The trousers look very plain compared to the jacket. Quite a classic looking suit though.
What is weird about those gentlemen HBK?
The guy on the left looks like he is suffocating in that jacket...
