Short-sleeved summer shirts

Looks like Nat Nast.

I'm a big fan of these shirts, though I don't have any, they have a variety of different colors, etc to choose from at K-Mart, I've had my eye on them since the shipment came in.

Personally I dislike the "Short Sleved Oxford" dress shirts. ESP when people think they can put a tie with them. (And I've done it in the past too). OR WORSE, wearing it with a jacket. I do love the Madras Plaid Short Sleeve shirts and the ones with out the placket with an eye loop for the top button.

I do like those Havanna Shirts, and should get one. There is a Fuentes Ad with the Fuentes guys in those shirts and Panama Hats in the tobacco FIelds.

One other thing, you used to see some Brown leather cap toe oxfords with linen body betwen the cap toe and the vamp. Is anything like that available today????

I don't really recall seeing many pictures of shorts on adults other than athletic events.

In WWII you see some troops such as in the desert having shorts as part of the uniform.

Other than that men's Lederhosen of the German speaking peoples as traditional garb.

If the 1950s is far enough "back then" for you then shorts wouldn't be out of step with a vintage look, especially if they are in a madras pattern and paired with some sort of loafers. Very traditional look that would have been acceptable back then in many casual situations. In the anything goes world we live in now it would be good for just about anywhere (unfortunately).

EDIT: Tomasso's pic above is a good example of non madras shorts that I would guess is from the 1940s. A couple of pretty girls on each arm and you can even wear a jacket with those shorts...

My dad NEVER dresses up, let alone wear a suit. But the few times in my life I recall him wearing one, before he gave it to me since he says he will no longer need one, and has lost 70 lbs and it fits me better than him haha. He always wore a short-sleeved oxford and a tie under it. But this is because he was 275 lbs at the time, and is a weight-lifter whos arms are 20 inches around. He has a tough time with long sleeved shirts.

Not to mention the choice of footwear. No offense, but could anyone imagine going out in a pair of those things today?
