I'll say this: I'd like to be able to buy it. That is, I'd like to have the money and an opportunity to wear it, but I have neither.

I was bidding on a morning coat from that same seller, and got sniped at the last minute. Grr.

It has a real Terry Thomas quality to it.

It's so suggestive of that period of film, those Ealing comedies especially (Kind Hearts and Coronets, for example, or those St Trinians films) that I'd love a suit just like it. I can just see myself walking into a lecture hall wearing knickers. My students (and my colleagues) already think I'm mad. As usual though it's much too small for a brute like me.

I find this sellers listings kind of peculiar, what with the centimetrical measurments and the A=, B=, C=, business.

They generally get the prices they deserve. A bit like a certain seller named after a certain shoe company.

Yes, seller "Hogspear" has wonderful things! He/she must get into the best attics in the UK. And many of the item descriptions are witty as well. I get a lot of pleasure looking at Hogspear's auctions.

I'm an American, but I've been watching British comedies for so long that the word "knickers" automatically makes me giggle. :p

When I was in Jr. High, knickerbockers were popular among the girls. I wanted a pair, but never had them. Boo hoo. ;)

You can get such suits from Hucklecote.

One vendor that offers them is William Powell.

Careful, Mad Hatter. I think that the photo above shows a suit with "breeks", not plus-fours. Breeks are much narrower; as the photo indicates, they don't billow out like plus-fours do.

(Breeks go well with wellington boots; plus-fours go well with long woven socks and brogues.)

A more expensive option is the Purdey Gentleman's Shooting Suit, available stateside from British Sporting Arms.
