Shirts - Hanging or folded?

Hello all,

Just a question - when you drop your shirts off at the drycleaners, do you request that they be returned to you hanging or folded?

Space is an issue in my wardrobe... I'd like 'em folded I think, but I'm afraid they'll need a press before I can wear them.

When I worked in the computer biz, it was very common for the guys that traveled a lot to have their shirts folded and boxed, then wear them with the creases still in them. I'm not sure if they just didn't feel like re-ironing them or if they just liked to look like they wore brand new shirts straight from the package every day. You really couldn't see the extra creases unless they took their jackets off, with the exception of the one straight across the belly. I still never thought it looked bad, and the shirts traveled much better.

When I worked at the good drycleaner in Atlanta it cost a bit more to have shirts folded. They were presented to the customer in a box. One time the clerk forgot to mark FOLD and the customer was quite anxious he would not have enough room to store them. [huh] The crew had gone home for the day and the machines were turned off so he grumblingly took them home on hangers. Where would a man live that folded clothes take up less room than hanging clothes? A boat? Even so....I still can't figure it out. A truck cab? I like everything hanging so I can see it and it's less wrinkled. Only undergarments and sleepwear are folded into drawers since I don't care what they look like, just grab and go.

Yet another vote for hangers. I have a strong distaste for irons, using them only if absolutely necessary, say, for that recalcitrant tie here and there. Hangers please.

Hangers! When I do laundry, I usually hang up my shirts on a plastic hangers while wet and drip / line dry, I will iron those that need it, the dress shirts, but many come out just fine with no need of a touch up.

Hangars for button up shirts (dress shirts & sport shirts) which theoretically should all be ironed; folding for pull over shirts (golf shirts, under shirts, etc) which don't need ironing.:D

Here it depends. Since we smoke, if anything needs to be stored a while before wearing and/or clothing protectors for hangers aren't available, then folding them and keeping them from developing the hanger discoloration is more important then re-ironing.

If it's something we wear regulalry, then it's usually hung, but only because I don't like folding.

Thanks for the responses... I usually do the ironing myself, but lately I've been a lazy sod and have been bringing them back from the dry cleaner's on hangers.

After our trip to LA, space is a premium (came back with a load of shirts) so I'll probably consign some of the older shirts to storage in the meantime.
