Great jacket. I am seriously thinking I need a waxed cotton one. 500 seems a fair price. Lots of shops sell for this price range. At first , I thought its a t shirt jacket using thin cotton fibers.

I swear, Ship John's Instagram freaking works. Other makers should take note. That fake-ass Americana deal they're selling... Man, I dunno if I'd take another look at that jacket if it wasn't for the whole story they're selling.

But ultimately, it does seem like a really good jacket. Just all the pockets and features you'd need.

Hi Boyo
The Wills seems to be a really nice jacket! Would you mind sharing some pics after it has been broken in?
Hi @andyone , I do really like the waxed canvas version of the Wills jacket ( the leather not so much) Mine hasn't been worn much as I received it at the start of spring so it looks pretty much the same as it did in March.

UGH this thread bump reminds me I still haven't heard squat about the ramblin' jacket I pre-ordered in March...

As per his Insta, we should be getting the final invoice in a few days and the jacket shortly there after.

Damn I must've missed that! last I saw was a "things are coming along" end of July. Sweet! Good timing!
Looking over his posts though...don't see anything like that...

Sorry @ton312, just double checked was from the “September Newsletter” email dated 9/8/2020

Product Updates

• Ramblin' Jackets are finishing up as we speak! They will begin shipping in about a weeks. Keep an eye out for your final payment invoices coming via email. Once all pre-orders have shipped and aftercare / exchanges have been handled, extra inventory of the jackets will be stocked online in October.

Let me know when you get your invoice Boyo and I'll do the same for you...I saved the down payment confirmation receipt but would not be the least bit surprised if some fell through the cracks. That feels like it was a LONG time ago.

I just signed up for the newsletter as well. I had all but forgotten about this jacket and could've easily overlooked it. Seems like every few months I'd get an "Oh yeah!" reminder. Hopefully we can all put this one to bed soon!
Between the Pandemic and civil unrest I bet things have not been ship shape at Ship John lately.

Add recent fires to it, and the fact that the owner had his skull cracked by robbers 2 yrs ago, and it does not add up to a pretty picture over there.

That was nasty business. And with a hatched no less, they literally split his skull open! He fully recovered, tho.

That's kind of a funny question to ask on this site where price and value is often artistically arrived at, but I think I hear you. Look at Belstaff or Barbour prices and you'll see this is priced ok. However 24 oz is highly unusual - Barbour is around 8 oz. So this stuff's point of difference is, shall we say, robustness? It is super thick. I actually think that waxed cotton at that thickness may not be too practical but I would be interested to hear back from owners. I suspect tearing along creases may be a risk.

I wonder if it is worth ever going thicker than 14oz for waxed cotton. To me the obsession with escalating thickness or weight reminds me of those supermarket razors that keep adding blades on the principle that more is better. I am not convinced this is the case but it may be. Whatever the case the jacket looks great.

Yeah, 8oz is historically the standard for the Belstaff, Barbour and similar British belted motorcycle jackets. Some makers now do do them a bit heavier, though typically still only 12-14oz. I would guess the heavier weight is partly down to the fashionability of heavier denim and such. That said, if my eye doesn't deceive me, it looks like this Ship John jacket is unlined, which would mean you could as comfortably wear a single, heavier layer as the likes of a Barbour International which has an 8ozshell and closing in on at least an 8oz lining as well.
