I have handled their jackets, it has the effect of a high gloss plastic paint finish, the pictures don't show the actual texture. Also look at Genco in Japan, and pick a 40" for example, and look at the Dustbowl, Caboose, and Brakeman and the sizing for shoulder, chest and arms are all different. My other problem if you shell out well over a £1100 plus Taxes in my case, and it doesn't fit, there is no return.

If you are talking about customer satisfaction Alan Johnson at Johnson leather is one of the best out there for service, advice and professionalism and a genuine nice guy as well. He made me two fantastic jackets in Horween Vermont Expresso Horsehide. Cant speak highly enough about him, and provides a mock up service to ensure sizing is spot on with no surprises.

Here is a Good Wear Ventura shinki. This is the only one I have. I don't know that all shinki is going to have the same look and feel. Others have a lot of experience with this hide. I've seen a Flat Head that looks to be very similar color and texture as this GW. I would not consider this a light weight leather,. not Lost World heavy.

Hello again,

As Shinki is very expensive compared to Italian Veg Tanned 'Vicenza' (dan_t advised this horsehide), I would like to ask you if you already have experience with Italian Veg Tanned 'Vicenza' from Aero? I like Aero pretty much but don't know if this new horsehide is comparable to Shinki horsehide in terms of quality, persistence, ageing, etc. As the Aero Premier 20's Work Coat is very similar to Himel Canuck (my favourite now but 3 times more expensive than Aero due to weak Euro and import taxes, duty, shipping from the US) I really consider the Aero Premier 20's Work Coat in Dark Seal Vicenza HH if this horsehide is comparable with Shinki. Otherwise I need to save some money and wait a couple of months.

Thank you so much for your help!!!

Kind regards,
Robbie

I own both Shinki and Vincenza. Both are great hides -- both are medium weight, pliable, wearable, durable and robust. I personally prefer the feel and pliability of the Shinki. I am also a big fan of Himel's workmanship and artisan approach. That said, a three times price differential is tough to swallow.

I like your thinking here. I also like the Himel Canuck and was thinking the Aero Premier 20's Work Coat might be a more affordable sub. I'm actually considering veg-tanned goat as I have a few HH jackets already - including a GW in Shinki.

I've got both Shinki and Vicenza jackets as well. While they are both similar and I rally like both. I'd take Shinki over Vicenza if I had the choice.

Hi Superfluous,
Thank you for your advice and recommendation. It's a tough decision and I am really not sure if the 3 times more expensive Himel Canuck justifies the much better Shinki HH over Aero Vicenza.
Thank you again and have a good day!
Robbie

what is your reasoning behind your preference out of curiousity?

Its hard to put my finger on it really. I'm not saying the Vicenza is a poor choice and if I were to order another Aero it would definitely be a Vicenza jacket, no hesitation but there is just something about the Shinki, it is a touch lighter and has a little more character.

When I was sent samples of both, I immediately picked the Shinki. I don't have full jackets to compare, but Protein Nerd is correct- side by side, Shinki wins in my book. If you didn't already fall in love though, go with the Italian.

My shinki behaves just like FQHH, that is to say, unless it is comprehensively soaked water just runs off it.

Haha, living in northern Germany, it would be like simply not wearing it at all.
I mean we have rain almost every day. So it's quite important for me. Plus, why should I buy something that expensive that will break by the slightest test of reality. Haha.

Maybe I'm different than everybody here, but I'm wearing my vibergs when wading through horse sh!t, my alden Indy playing music in squats on floors covered with human feces. Haha.
Seriously, I believe those things are constructed to be worn hard.
