Oh well, hard to argue with that! I hope that jacket doesn’t carry also the white tag with “handmade in Italy” written on it.

If I read "hand made in Italy" I think it is at least made in Italy. If the sewing is made by hand or by a machine is - for me - not the most important point. I am astonished that a tag in the jacket says "Made in Pakistan" and on the homepage is indicated "(hand)made in Italy".

Has anyone emailed them to ask what is made where?

Another possibility seems to be that the hide is harvested and tanned in Italy, and sent to Pakistan for assembly. Could even be cut in Italy and then sewn in Pakistan.

I remember when this all came up with AVI a couple of years ago; I was rather surprised to say the least looking into it to discover that EU law did not actually require labelling for actual country of manufacture. I believe they're moving in that direction now, though, despite industry resistance.

Hi everyone, I’m Marco co-founder of Shangri-La Heritage, nice to meet you.

I’d like to shed some light on the points touched in this discussion regarding our jackets.

Those made in Pakistan jackets are actually the first samples ever made for Shangri-La Heritage, we met these manufacturers in a leather trade show in Italy back in 2016 when Daniel (the other co-founder of Shangri-La Heritage) and I didn’t have a clear idea of which characteristics our products should have had, we didn’t have a company, we didn’t have an e-commerce...

We talked to them and we wanted to see how they worked, so we ordered a bunch of jackets as samples. When the jackets arrived they were actually good, we sent them to the first retailers we contacted at that time because we needed to get some feedback.

In the meantime we figured out better how we wanted our products to be and which kind of values we wanted to deliver with Shangri-La Heritage, so we ditched the Pakistani and we kept looking for Italian workshops that could produce our jackets, and eventually we found it. Since then, every leather jacket we make is Hand Made in Italy in a family run workshop in Lecco, Northern Italy.

You can see the actual people that work there following this link https://www.shangrilaheritage.it/craftsmanship/ and I would be more then happy to make whoever of you guys wants to visit the workshop, it’s address is: C.so Emanuele Filiberto 74, 23900 Lecco (Italy).

Please let me know if you need more information!

Cheers,

Marco

Ciao Marco!
Welcome to the lounge! I've seen your brand name several times in the past on webshops like Stuff, Duesseldorf or Cultizm but wasn't sure about the quality and where your jackets are made. You offer beautiful jackets and I'm glad to read that there is another quality leather and non-leather jacket maker in the EU!
Cheers,
Robbie

I really like your suede trucker even if it is more a modern interpretation than a classic, histroric correct jacket. Can you please tell us/me more about the tanning method (leather is from Italia, right?), calfskin thickness, hardware/buttons, etc.? I'm more used to >1.1mm horsehide, steerhide, deerskin and have never had a leather jacket made of calfskin.
Thanks,
Robbie

Thank you Robbie! Yes almost all our jackets have a bit of modern touch. The Aviatore B-3 Shearling for example is not so heavy to wear and it has a nice tailored fit in comparison to the original one.

About the calfskin used for the Terracotta suede, it is made od slit leather, hence is the side of the flesh. It's pretty thick (around 1mm) because we didn't want to have a fashion-like suede jacket and yet it has a very nice soft feel. The lining is viscose with a little cotton padding, the buttons are made in Italy and since the last production in November 2020 we started using the ones made by Fiocchi (photos are of the Terracotta Ranch in Steerhide):

They are more solid than the ones that you can see in the photos of the Terracotta Suede.

Let me know if you need more info!

No! Custom 5 Star is well below this price point, these are Aero prices. 5 star is pizza money by comparison. :D

Ah, yea that makes sense actually! I just saw your comment before looking at their pricing. If they are indeed made in Pakistan I would expect a lower price.

Hey Gents,

New member here. I actually found TFL looking for reviews on Shangri-La Heritage but didn't see much about the company on here. That of course led to the rabbithole that is this site and not good for my wallet for sure! I've been into quality denim, boots, dress shoes, etc for a while
and now it appears that leather jackets are my new addiction. All I can say, is there are a lot of stylish gents on here and yall have brought new cool brands to my attention.

Anyways.. I recently acquired the Varenne in whiskey horsehide. This is my first HH jacket so I'm very much a novice to this genre. With that being said, I am a big fan of this jacket. The smell is incredible, it has a nice weight to it and is overall a quality garment. I dig the color alot. Only a few loose threads here and there.

I'm typically in between a size small and medium. I'm 5'7" / 148 lbs / 40" chest / 30" waist. I went with a size medium. I think it fits me pretty well in the shoulders and chest but wouldn't mind taking the waist in about an inch. What do you guys think?

Let me know if you have any questions about my experience.

Sorry for the shitty lighting. Its overcast/raining here in the midwest

Cheers

Length, sleeves, shoulders look absolutely stunning in my opinion. Waist could be one inch in maybe yes, but the HH is stiff enough not to hang on your body so I think you shouldn’t go for a made-to-measure jacket

Thanks Marco. I agree with you on all the above. I emailed you some updated measurements and now you can see what the Medium looks like on me. I'll wait to see what you say before my next jacket purchase. The Varenne in black with fur collar is gorgeous :)

Can you tell us about the leather used? It looks like it has great fading potential from your website.

Thanks to you! I saw the email and I’m waiting to discuss about your measurements with our tailors tomorrow morning. The Steerhide used for our Varenne Black Leather Jacket is 1-1.1mm thick and it’s less stiff than the HH, it gains in patina and fades as you can see from the last photos on the gallery here https://shangrilaheritage.it/product/varenne-fur-collar-black-leather-jacket/

I would go for a M size as well but it could make sense to shrink it a bit on the waist and bottom, let me talk to our workshop tomorrow and I’ll get back to you

Hello sir and welcome to FL! May your wallett survive...it can really take a hit fast.

Glad to see a KC person on here. Not that far away. For your first leather jacket, that's quite a jacket right there! and will only get better as you wear it.

Thank you Sir! Swing on by for some BBQ! If you are an Iowa State fan and enjoy basketball, you've probably made it this way for the Big 12 Tourney.

Yes I am very pleased with this being my first HH jacket. I have a few suede jackets and a decent cowhide bomber but this is definitely another level up.
