I have to say I'm surprised to discover that so many Maine residents are being duped by phony doo wop groups that hearings and legislation are needed.

Coincidentally, I was wondering what happend to Bowser just a few days ago.

I'd imagine wrongly using a trademarked name, image or other likeness would already be illegal. Proper enforcement should be practiced, instead of enacting further legislation. [huh]

Interesting issue. I can see how this might become a nasty problem, especially if profits from the use of the names / likeness / intellectual property weren't going to their proper owners.

Apparently it's a nationwide epidemic! ;)

"Bauman, who performed with Sha Na Na from 1969 until the mid-'80s, is pitching the bill in his role as head of the Truth in Music Committee of the Pennsylvania-based Vocal Group Hall of Fame.

He is taking the proposal to state capitals because consumer fraud issues are much more easily enforced at the state level. But Bauman said he's also pushing Congress to pass a federal law."

Think of all the Marilyn Monroe impersonators that don't pay her estate a dime... I know the Elvis people once made some sort of public statement about looking the other way. But since those celebrities are dead, it's obvious they aren't the real thing.

The issue with Sha Na Na is impersonating without stating they aren't the real group.
