Mine turned out very long waisted-Buttericks do that on me! And my armholes gapped too. I am still trying to figure out how to adjust it-I think I may have to take it up at the shoulders.

I will be sewing my first unprinted pattern. Are there any secrets I should know about? Anything to watch out for?

Just pay attention to the direction of your grain. That can be hard to spot on a non printed pattern. Most directions have more detailed pictures so you should be just fine if you keep those close by. I tend to re draft all my patterns and use the copy anyway, so I can write notes on the copy so I dont loose my place.

Good luck!!

Oh wow. Damn! I hope they start selling it over here, I really really love it. Everything of it! I want to make 10 of each piece! I am afraid of circle skirts and what they do to my hips, but this one has fancy pleats that would probably work!

Or if Kim, your offer above might apply to me too? ;) I have my paypal finger at the ready! ;)

Hey, my offer stands for any one who would like it! Just let me know which patterns you want and I'll make my way to JoAnns! (At least let me go first to see if they have them - some of the stores in my neck of the woods don't always have the same patterns).

Are they really $1.99? That's like one pound! If they have it, I'll just have that one. And thank you in advance, sooo much. If you can't find it, if anyone spots it for sale anywhere that ships internationally, let me know!

Yep, they are $1.99! It's amazing, really.

I tried to PM you, but it said your inbox was full - just wanted to make sure I got the proper size! They are in two groups: 6-14 or 14-22...also, PM me your addy so I can send it on when I find it!

Today I am taking it apart and cutting a new front. Widening the armholes and cutting them a little higher. I hope this fixes the problem. I'll keep my progress updated.

I saw another thread on everyday bags and I still need something roomy enough to toss in some spare clothes for my daughter. I have been looking at the Amy Butler patterns and wondering if anyone has ever made one, how it looks. The Swing bag, oddly enough named, seems to be the one closest to what I'd like. I really think in the 30s they didn't do large carryalls, not that I've seen. I brought a freebie tote bag home from work the other day and my husband said it was the ugliest thing he'd ever seen.

barbara, i've never made one, but my local fabric shop is nuts over amy butler's bags, and they always have them displayed in the store. they look great, but i can't say i've ever used one.

Barbara, I was seduced into buying the weekender bag pattern several months ago but haven't worked up the nerve to make it yet. Still have the cabo halter in my to do pile and my sister wants one too.

The problems I have heard from the weekender bag is it can be a pain to sew through the many layers and getting the pattern matching (optional) sorted out. The swing bag seems to be much less constructed that I wouldn't think it would be too hard. The instructions for the halter pattern I have is fairly well detailed.

Read the cutting notes very carefully if you're short on fabric. Lots of times they require a facing or some other piece that they don't give a tissue piece for, they just say 'cut a rectangle 4"x9"'. I've been caught off guard by this several times. Good news is, lots of times it doesn't show if you have to use a contrast fabric.

For any slinky fabric I like to trace the pieces, remove the tissue, pin the fabric (inside the lines), then cut. It's a little extra work, but the cutting is so much more accurate.
