Setting Lotion Application Problems

I've used setting lotion once in my life... and I did it by dipping my comb into a class full of it. Now I have a concotion of Lottabody in a sprayer bottle and it only streams out, it doesn't spray.. or "mist" How do you get an even amount of coverage?? I've tried several sprayers around the house, and it always comes out in a stream. Am I stuck with the "comb in the glass dip"??

my spray bottle doesn't mist either (cheap crap)...so what i do is just squirt it in a few places down the lock and then comb through. i like to come through anyway, just to smooth the lock before curling. that seems to work for me...

One thing you might want to try (the next time you go to Sally's) pick up a hair color applicator, mix your proportions of lotta body and water, shake it up and apply the amount you need to your head. This is just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the advice girls! Brooksie, I really like that idea.. I'll have to pick a new applicator next time I go shopping!
Zaika, I ended up doing what you said. although I mixed it with a bit more water and set it to the finest mist possible, and it came out a somewhat thicker stream. So.. oh well..Either way, it's something I guess!!


On a side note, I saw that Biolage has a setting lotion, in a pump form, more.. lotion-y so to speak...has anyone tried it?

Sometimes the sprayer could be at fault try getting one that is similar to what hairspray comes in that you have to push down or if you tried that kind and it didn't work for you try one that has the same head as say a windex bottle. Vauge discriptions I know but hopefully it will get the point across. Also maybe the sprayer is clogged, let it sit in some warm water for about 5 minutes and see if that helps. If not you might just be stuck with the comb or the applicator option. I always opt for the comb method simply because I hate when I spray something and I get covered in it. Hopefully that helps and good luck settling lotion is a big help!

Thanks for the tips! I have tried the windex sprayer.. hee hee..and the warm/hot water, and even trying the same sprayer in water first... (nice mist) then the lotion (stream) then back in water (mist again!) So I thick maybe it has to do with the thickness of the liquid? That's all I can come up with. [huh]

I've had similar problems. My Mom seemed to think that the comb-in-the-glass dip was the common way to use it back in the day, but I didn't care for the outcome myself.

I finally settled on using the spray bottle to spray the solution over a fine-toothed comb which I then run through my hair. It seems to work pretty well, and I feel like I have a lot of control over how much I use. Oh, and I do the spraying over the sink. Otherwise, it can spray through the teeth of the comb and make the counter messy! :eusa_doh:

I soak a cotton pad with it and run it through each section before I pin curl. Kind of like you would do with wave lotion when you have a perm. It stays on the pad and doesn't dribble down your neck

I have found Lottabody to be too thick to use with a spray bottle. It gunks up every spray bottle I've ever tried it with. I just have it in a container with a big open top and I either dip my comb or just dip in with my fingers.

This works great. It's called Thermal Active Setting Spray, but you can use it for both wet sets and hot rollers.

I have exactly the same problem with my sprayer,
i thought i just had a faulty bottle !
Yesterday i tipped out some hairspray out of a pump bottle and tried the setting lotion in there , still just sprayed in one stream.....
I like Fructis Curl Construct mousse for damp sets and Bed Head Uptight for heat sets.

Whew! I was beginning to think I was cursed with the spray bottles! Well I set my hair last night, and I'll see how much I like the lottabody...if it's good, I may have to try Brooksie's idea with the applicator.. that also reminds me of waving solution and perms.. so it should work well. Other wise, the dip always did work.

I do want to try something with hold for my hot sets though, and though I adore Royal Crown for shine, and thermal protection, it doesn't have any hold. If I got something with good hold, I could use Royal Crown after my set is out. Thanks for the advice ladies!!!

It might be best (when trying the applicator method) to squirt out what you need into your hands and work it through the hair.

I suggest mixing the Royal Crown with your Lottabody for your sets. Apply the Lottabody first and then put in some Royal Crown. This is the method I use, just with a different type of pomade. Helps combat the frizzies.

I have a little spray bottle with about 2/3 Lottabody and 1/3 water that I squirt into my hand, rub between both hands, apply to sections of damp hair, and then brush through. Works for me
