Tilt it back a little, snap the brim down a little more in front, and I think you'd be right on the money. Funny, my sage green Resistol in my avatar picture also has a 2-3/8" brim, and it's about as "stingy" as I want to go.

Then again, I wore a top hat and tails to my company Christmas party. lol

(The ladies loved it, BTW. ;) )

What a difference an 1/8" inch makes, eh? The black fedora I now have (bought to replace my lost 2") is 2 1/4" yet I seem to have this image change by going 2 3/8". Maybe it makes me seem 'approachable' which is something I have a problem with.:D

The crown is high but I had a diamond bash installed so it dropped a bit, and, unfortunately, Worth & Worth doesn't have wide ribbons so I was forced to go with the narrow. I think the wide would have given me something closer to MK's lid which is what I wanted.

Sitting too high on my head? Something I tend to worry about, as I don't wnt to look like this:

Tony, you need to talk about this in the "What to Wear" thread.

I have gone back to look at the Senator's picture for a second glance.
There is nothing wrong with it. It is amazing what an 1/8th or so will do for a look. This is not the Senator we know and look up to, but definitely not going to drive away the voters! ;)
The hat gives Senator Jack a different look and attitude from prior hats I have seen him wear. It is a 1/8th change that cannot be quickly remedied with a switch of a hat. If you have room at home to keep an extra hat keep this one.

The hat looks great. The dimensions seem to suit your face actually (it is strange to see you in non-stingy mode, i must admit). But i'm with Lincsong: Not with that combo.

Here's my critique:

There's something that stikes me as just wrong with that hat paired with that suit/shirt etc. There's nothing that really connects the hat with the torso. The shirt is too dark. Can't see the tie. the socks are dark. Funnily enough the pocket square is too light. So what you have is a hat sitting on your head which bears no relation to the rest of the outfit. It's just floating there screaming: "look at me, i don't coordinate with the torso". I suspect a lighter (perhaps a pale yellow or cream coloured) shirt will bring the whole outfit together.

Looking fine, Mr. Senator! I think the wider brim looks great, especially with those lapels. I must concur with other dissenters and say that the hat color to me is not the right choice for that suit. The shirt and socks/shoes are great, and I see where maybe you tried to connect the hat color to the suit with that shirt. Still, to my eye, that suit wants a darker hat. To me, the most important thing with brims is that the width be matched to other attire. Clearly, you make a wider brimmed hat look as great as a stingy. That photo just screams "STYLE!"; please tell me you planned that photo a little before you took it. Or are you just The Man at all times without trying? :D

Actually, I had been out in the city wearing that suit with my black fedora and topcoat. When I got in, I was on the lounge for a while when Matt called and asked me to post pics of the hat and suit, so I took a fast shot.

I guess this takes us back to the 'Black' thread. As I stated there, I was under the impression that a black suit requires a black hat, else we get, as the Baron wrote: 'It's just floating there screaming: "look at me, i don't coordinate with the torso". Last time we see this combo on me.

The suit is from MyTailor, and I'll be posting some pics of it separately. I didn't notice till I took the picture that the stripes on the trouser sides actually meet up in a perfect 'V'. Another detail that seems to have gone by the wayside.

Regards,

Senator Jack

Senator Jack,

That hat looks sharp, and the brim size works just fine for you.

I've sort of gravitated to 2 1/4" to 2 3/8" brims myself, down from 2 1/2. It's gotta be that pull of the early-30s, tugging at my sleeve.
