Interesting...you find 3 and 4's patterns to be "smaller" than 5? I guess they are, in the sense of being more intricate.

Of course a lot would depend on the width of the suit stripe. I considered a fine houndstooth bow in black & tan, but that pattern was obviously too small.

The simplicity of the plain dot works whereas the others are not only small in pattern, but have a bit more going on. All IMO, of course.

I've been finding that the only way to really gauge a pattern's size is through its amount of empty space: bigger pattern equal more empty space. smaller, intricate patterns have less empty space.

Bows for Tan and Creme Seersucker

Thanks to both Mr Fletch, for all that work, and Mr Charlestonbows for the comments. I was actually looking for something along the lines of the brown dot tie. I just don't have the imagination required to arrive at options like the others. But, when it's in front of me, then I know what I like. I wish I could find number five for sale today.

By the way the stripe width on my tan and creme seersucker is actually the same as the everyday blue/white Brooks, Nautica, etc. The fabric seems to be the same save for the colors.

More on bows for seersucker

At long last I managed to get by Mr. Charlestonbows shop in Charleston, tan seersucker jacket in hand. I was treated to some personal attention and 10 or so bowties to choose from. I selected a brace of them and was on my way. Unlike Messers Fletch and Charlestonbows I have no imagination for this kind of thing on my own and so really appreciate their advice and this forum.

I certainly will post some photos of the bows you selected for me. We're away from home this week with no camera charger.

As an aside, my wife (who I failed to introduce to Mr Charleston Bows--how tacky) very much liked the bows you selected, commenting that she was surprised that I didn't get the whole lot of them. Budget constraints are, of course, the explanation. Besides, I have something to look forward to on my
next trip to King Street.

Wow, old thread. For me the top criteria for a seersucker suit are less-than-full lining, because it's supposed to be cool, soft construction and minimal shoulder padding, and low price, since it's not very durable and will probably last only a couple years.

J Crew's seersucker suit fit the bill. I got one on sale for just a little over $100 at the end of the season last year and it hit all three criteria.

Ooh, I think I'll have to keep an eye out for those at the end of this year. I just picked one up at JosABank for their usual $197 sale. Also picked up a few bow ties, a Montecristi (gave my old one to my dad) and a pair of white Florsheims.

Now I just need to track down a decent cotton shirt. I'm thinking Younkers or Penny's should have something in pink, mint or white. Key word = should.

Darn kids at Younkers didn't have the foggiest what I meant by "Bucks" or "Nubucks". When I asked about saddle shoes, she said they didn't carry cowboy boots. I asked her to point me in the direction of bow ties and she laughed, "I don't think anyone wears those." :eusa_doh:

I wish I just made that up. That turned my Wednesday into a turd day.
