Dress to impress my comrades! Heed not the fiery arrows of scorn! Gird up in the fashion you choose, wear it with pride and good things will come. The slovenly or lazy dressers may cast verbal stones, but, heed them not. For you know what you wear is right and what they wear is unsightly. Would the Eagle pay attention to the filthy pidgin? No! Carry a song in your hearts and know you're all very special for carrying on the traditions of your fathers and mothers who lived before these times.

Ever notice that "white trash" is the only group of Americans that we can denigrate, laugh at, parody and even insult without being "politically incorrect"?

Just an observation. :(

Yes. I do a lot of writing on this theme.

That's right! Amen! Oh have mercy on those who chastise the well presented! The washed, and the clean, the holders of tradition and proper grooming! We must become "Doers" and not "Sayers"! Yea, be ye not afraid, be steadfast, press ye pants and shirts often. For low, when the rich see ye and point their fingers and scoff wile looking like fools, pay no attention for they are the fools by spending their fortunes on pre-tattered togs.

Hallelujah!

White people can make fun of any subgroup of whites. Including but not limited to: WOPs, Paddys, Frogs, Goombas, Gorilla Heads, Guidos, Herring Chokers, Hicks, WASPs, Degos, Wiggers, and any other number of white-only slurs.

wearing vintage clothing around London gets surprisingly little attention. i think most of the time people don't know what i'm wearing (i never wear a fedora which is the easiest 'hook' for most people) and suits are common in a big city. on a positive note i've noticed a few women about with high(er) waisted skirts and dresses. one woman on the tube was wearing a pink blouse and grey skirt that had a very 40s feel even though they weren't vintage. she really stood out (to me anyway). the 40s is supposedly having a strong fashion influence at the moment (among the more tailored crowd).

It isn't about being uncomfortable about how you look especially in Southern California or Florida as you can attend any venue imaginable and see people dressed in any imaginable way. At Six Flags in the Dallas area you might see some straw cowboy hats but not one suit.

It's about being physically comfortable. You're not an damned politician always in the camera's eye so you don't need to be seen in a suit. Save that for the dining room at the hotel at night. You're a normal person. If you stand in line for an hour in a vintage double breasted with a fur fedora on in the 90 degree sun waiting to get on Space Mountain you will SUFFER.[huh]

Again, I refer you to the recent pictures of FL members at DisneyLand...granted it was a coolish day but still, it was June.....

So I go back to....its about being comfortable, not just physically as you say, otherwise I would wear my jammies and be done with it. lol

Its about dressing 'how you want to'...so for some that is a suit and a fedora, if its not for you, thats cool too.

and btw... the line for Space mountain is not really in the sun, its shaded by little patio covers for most of the way.

I took Senator Jack's advice and purchased a cheapo straw hat from VHS.

I stiffened it into a fedora and now it's good to go for vacation. I took it on a test run yesterday at a National Guard picnic. I got a lot of compliments, so I think I did a good job.

As I said before, I'm just going to wear a shirt with rolled up sleeves and tie. It's vintage-esque but it's probably not "over doing it" (double breasted suit). ;) I'll snap some photos while I'm out there.

I think you made the right call - dressed in a nice way, not in a "nobody EVER wore that to a park" way. Nixon looked like he was having a photo-op, not a good time. You can do both! (and I really want to see those pics, too.)

I do think women have a slight advantage in warm weather vintage; a sundress and flats is classic and very light.

I commend the spending more time with the family, that's swell! I guess three bucks for laundering a pair of jeans isn't such a sin but, it's such a simple thing that I can't justify driving all the way to my cleaners to have them do something that I'm perfectly capable of doing my self... I only have my vintage dry cleaned... jeans can get washed like everything else. They come out of the dryer nice and fresh. It only takes 50 minuets out of my whole week to do.

Highest regards,

=WR=

Totally agree with you....that's why he doesn't go to Starbucks for his coffee....geez, he's gotta make some sacrifices...lol. Since he has his suits and shirt cleaned, he just throws them in and goes.

Now, if he was taking his standard kick around Old Navy jeans in.....well, I would totally view it the same as you....except I think it might lose something in the translation once he opened the door to his Ford truck....LOL

Cheers!
Jen
