Picked this one up for $65 so I thought it would make a good daily wear jacket . It's in good shape and is steerhide. It needed a good cleaning then I conditioned with a homemade conditioner and brushed/polished afterwards .
Would love to get a ideas as to it's age , I'm thinking 70's maybe ? Any help would be appreciated ( I've read the Sears thread ) .

We don’t see too many Sears The Leather Shop crosszip jackets around here and more’s the pity in my opinion. I got one a few months back just to try and ended up loving it. It’s very good quality and fits better than my Lost Worlds.

I definitely plan to get another one of these - especially since they are so inexpensive on eBay. I reckon mine is from the 1970s and yours probably as well, but I have no basis for that belief. There is another model with a bi-panel back but the leather looks like garbage to my eye (just judging from eBay photos) and I am assuming that is some rendition from a later era.

But how do you know it’s steerhide - can you tell from the feel or does your jacket say somewhere?

Congrats on a great buy! Here’s mine:

I'm going by weight and temper on the leather. Also the grain is tighter on steerhide. This 9ne is is thick and heavy and the temper is quite firm on the areas without alot of wear on them .

SCORE !! Any time i go to a thrift shop the leather jackets are always total junk. Stretched out odd ball jackets.

Its post 1972. 1972 was the last year for the D-pocket and mouton collars.

If Sears still made leather jackets like that, then maybe they wouldn't be one step away from bankruptcy and oblivion. Just too damn bad. Lousy management has destroyed Sears. All the Sears stores near me are now gone. Their website is truly atrocious. Takes forever to load and can't find anything because of all those "outside" sellers with terrible deals and junk.
