Here's an interesting page from the catalog.

This is the "Wishbook" catalog, which isn't their full catalog. It has mainly a lot of gift suggestions for the holiday season. I did see some men's clothing there, but not many pages of that category...

Not a lot of clothing. That was in the Big Book.

Here's the Index page from the catalog:

As a child, my friends and I used to play a game with the Lionel Train catalog. We would each get to "select" one item per page as we went through the catalog.

I now have a collection of old Sears and Ward's catalogs and will still play this game as I page through them.

If only we *could* put a vintage stamp on that order blank and send away for anything in the catalog!

I don't remember when Sears bought fur pelts, I guess I was too young. I know they still sold honey bees in the early 1970's. I have a friend that ordered bees from them several times.

Once upon a time, you could buy a house and furnish it from the Sears catalog.

The Allstate

In 1953, you could also buy a car out of the Sears catalog.

It was called the Allstate, and was a slightly modified Henry J made for Sears by Kaiser Fraiser.

So beautiful I find it hard to look away. If we had products like that available, I'd buy something EVERY DAY. My own personal favorite was the page of bibles with "Know the Glory of the Holy Scriptures". Real, good old fashioned American stuff. I see a ton of things I'd buy for a son, when I have him. Any way to download it for offline reading?

There's one here that I know of, probably more.

We have an entire neighborhood of those houses here, built in the 1910s -- each one was originally identical to the next, but over the years they've been uniqued-up by various owners. But even now you can look at them and see they all came out of the same kit. Good solid working-class housing -- and despite remodelings, they're still quite attractive!

Of course, I looked for the watches, and was quite disappointed with the selection....but then it dawned on me that U. S. made watches weren't available for civilian 'consumption' for almost 2 years AFTER the war ended, so that explained why the pickings are so slim in this 1945 catalog![huh] :eusa_doh:

Regards! Michaelson

I did two pages that are posted above by pulling them up, highlighting the page and clicking on properties, then I just pasted the image using the image tool on this reply box.

You should be able to pull up each page and save it as an image on your PC. At 170+ pages, this may take awhile.
