Screaming deals on vintage lids

I ain't usually a tout, but if any of you small-headed guys (size 6 7/8 or 7) haven't looked in the FL Classifieds recently, you'd be wise to do so right now, before Garrett comes to his senses.

At those prices, I'm tempted to snap some up just to resell at a later date. But, like many of us, at present I have other places to better put that dough. And I'm already running out of space for interesting old hats that don't fit. But I have faith that interest in vintage clothing is here to stay. Those old hats aren't deteriorating a bit while in my care, and they're getting all the older all the time.

You who have availed yourselves of this opportunity don't have to be told that you're getting finer hats than can be had at a new-hat retailer for several times the price. Good for you.

Amen to that!

It makes one cringe every time you see a great looking hat and it's 3-4 sizes too small!

Check out the web page for Black Sheep Hat Works.
He has a great story on there about rescuing a tiny, blue felt fedora and rebuilding it for himself
He took it from a 6 7/8 to a 7 1/4 ... by completely starting from scratch with the body, of course.
Anyway, it's an interesting story.

I've done the same myself many times, with hats for my own use and for others. But I'd be reluctant to do anything to "de-vintageify" an old hat in good or better condition, as taking it apart and reblocking it would almost certainly do. You'd very likely lose the sweatband, and the ribbon, as it probably wouldn't be long enough to go around a larger crown. Better just to hold onto the hat until it finds its way to a person it fits and devote one's resizing efforts to those hats that will be made not only larger but markedly better for it, as the fellow at Black Sheep has done. Other than clean them up just a little bit, there's really very little I or any hatter could do to improve the hats Garrett has put on offer.

Between Garrett and Thunder, everyone with a small head should be well-stocked with great hats.

I drooled at those listings myself. Some incredible stuff at very
reasonable prices. I almost went to the head shrinker!

Time for Jamespowers and some of the other big melons to
do the same!

I only looked at the top 4 thinking those were the only new ones. I'll have to go back and look again!!

And of course you know that a hat a little too big can usually be made to fit okay, with a bit of emergency cab fare tucked under the sweatband. Never can tell when it might be better to leave one's own horse right where it's stabled.
