Score! New Motorcycle Jacket that fits.

I ran across this motorcycle jacket the other day on eBay. I found the style to my tastes and more importantly the measurements were odd just like me. 24" across the shoulders, 26" arms, 25" across the chest, and 19" front zipper. Never ran across a used jacket quite like that. Received it via FedEx and slipped it on...whooaa, and it fit, it fit really well!

It's a Classic Motorcycle Jacket of Portland. The seller claims it's on par with a Langlitz. I'll leave it you to judge that. Let me know what you think of the fit.

Great jacket! Many parts of the jacket look very Langlitzesque, yet the zippers are the true test...what are they? ...all of them, a lot of times Langlitz zippers are mismatched.

Again, cool jacket!

Zips are all YKK. The leather is rather heavy and a bit stiff. Actually, the jacket is uncomfortable when just standing with my arms down at my sides and only feels right when I lift my arms as if in a riding posture. This jacket is designed for riding. Very short...which is just right on me because I have a extra short torso..., extra long sleeves...which are just right on my ape long arms..., and the zip sleeves are very tight...even on my extra skinny wrists...I have an odd build and this thing fits me quite nice. Just weird...like me.

Oh, and I don't know who in their right mind would make a jacket with all the proportions I just mentioned and then make the shoulders 24" across...which accommodate my extra wide shoulders. This jacket must have been made for my long lost twin I never knew.

Since the zips are YKK, the jacket is probably a Langlitz repo. from the '80s or something. Langlitz has pretty much stayed with either Serval or Talon zips.

It's very rare to find used jackets that perfectly fits you, in this case you were lucky, it looks perfect! I also thought it was a Langlitz....

Here's part of the seller's description off eBay:

The jacket is crafted from an original pattern used by Cal Leathers of Ventura; the owner purchased these patterns when the Los Angeles based company went out of business. I believe they manufactured leather jackets for Police and CHP throughout the 50's-70's. I owned one of these leathers years ago but it was stollen. I would compare the quality and build to that of a Langlitz leather (I've also owned a couple of these in my lifetime). The cowhide itself is extremely thick and very good quality, heavy ykk brass zippers throughout, sheepskin (shearling) fur lined cuffs, one interior left pocket, snap down collars, waist ties on either side and a black satin lining.

Today, I rode my motorcycle wearing the jacket for the first time. I only have one compliant. The collar area protrudes, leaving a gap for air to egt down to my chest area. It's like the jacket is designed to accommodate someone wearing a tie. Maybe this is part of the original pattern for police work? Also, I workout a lot and the arm "holes" could be an inch larger in diameter to add some wiggle room. Great jacket though.

Check out the way the zip sleeves are designed without a full attached gusset and have these little shearling patches to seal off any air flow. This works nice.

Yep, my jacket is basically identical to the Lost Worlds CHP jacket, only a stripped down version. I thought about the collar accommodating a tie might hold some truth based on a line in Lost Worlds description that reads, "All the desirable features in one classic: Extended, reinforced kidney panel; adjustable laced waist, leather badge mount; adjustable snap collar (to display his uniform shirt and tie when he pulled you over -- ah, those were the days; even cops had a bit of style; now it's just blue collar attitude);".

After a few rides today on the bike, I'm thinking I might want to wear a scarf to fill the void at the front of the collar. If not, the front collar area acts like an air intake. Good on hot days, bad on cold days.
