Vanson are really nice, though it's not clear from their website to me which jackets do and don't have armour pockets - seems to be the ones I like that don't!

Edward I agree with you. Most of the Sportrider jackets do. I just picked up a C2 Colorado (which I'll do a review on soon) that was on sale at a Motorcycle shop outside Minneapolis and it does not have these pockets. I noted after a quick review of Vanson's website that they seem to believe in "less is more" when it comes to details.

Yeah, if I was going Vanson it'd be one of their versions of the Perfecto. They're great as they are for roadrash, but really, as I'm planning to get a bike over the net couple of years, I'd prefer to have a least one jacket that also had a bit of armouring in it - abrasion is one thing, a knock on impact quite another!

Johnson Leathers can give you a great fit but can they give you a great leather? That is the downside I have found to dealing with them is that they don't have the best choice of leather.
Can you clarify that statement? What's your experience with the leather they provide? Have you been in the store to
see the selection? They don't always have CXL, but often they can get it. But that's really not the only nice leather
in the world. I'm pretty picky and I've always been impressed by their selection. And did you see the picture I posted
of the alligator jacket they made? They do special orders.

More to the point, they offer a lot more choices than Schott. I can't say I found the
leather appealing on the Perfectos I saw the other day.

I have not been to the store but Alan has sent me some samples. I would have certainly gone with JL if I liked any of the samples. I also asked him about getting certain leathers and he said that at that time he couldn't get what i wanted. Really, there was nothing there that I would even remotely consider for a jacket.

Alligator is not my thing, sorry. And no, I am not devoted to CXL, though I do own a jacket made with it. Obviously this is all a matter of preference. The heavy naked cowhide that Schott uses on its 141 and other top of the line jackets is, imo, the nicest leather out there. It all depends on what you like.

Have Lewis ever built a jacket with the pockets to accomodate CE armour? Seem to be very few classically styled leather jackets on the market doing that.

Yep, they have, Lewis collaborated with triumph on a range of super monza and dominators with a triumph badge and CE armour fitted, other than the triumph badge and armour they were standard Lewis cowhide jackets. They pop up on ebay now and then. For my purposes I just wear a back protector or a CE armour vest underneath my jacket if I need protection. This has the added benefit of being stowable in a daysack if im off the bike and can just wear the jacket without it. There is company in Australia, Jackson Leathers, who make replicas of vintage motorcycle jackets but with CE armour, removable insulated liners, a choice of hides including kangaroo. Ive got one of the monza replicas, awesome value and a great long distance riding jacket. link is below:

I stand corrected. I've seen those LL jackets from the Triumph range but never knew they had armour. Cool!

Thanks, I'll check that out. Like Monitor, I'd seen those Triumph-Lewis jaxckets around and advertised, but I had no idea they were armoured. Interesting choice of models - I wonder was there a specifc reason they picked those and not, say, the Lightning or Bronx.

That Monza is pretty cool but the Dominator is way off. It looks bulky and just the top sleeve zippers would've really made it a lot more authentic.

The Perfecto type looks nice. The Dominator one looks boxier than a Lewis, more like the American style jackets the standard Aero Highwayman is based on . Still looks good, though, as what it is. The venting in the "pocket" zippers is a clever idea.

I think the jacket looks great. I never cared for nubuck but this " oiled nubuck " is something different. Schott has a new " Sailor Jerry " MC jacket on there website....Man I love leather jackets!!

It's funny to have this conversation in the context of a thread about a Nubuck jacket...
They have a ton of choices and they change over time. Natural product you know.

The back length of the new Sailor Jerry jacket in med and large is 28" according to Jerri of Schott. Way too long imo. Totally ridiculous.

I'm sure Schott jackets are ncie but I just don't like the designs. In this one for example the zippers, cuffs and lateral cinchs seem off to me.
The zipper and cuffs look fine to me. What the hell is a lateral cinch ?

Great conversation on this topic so far. Thanks for all the opinions and comments. One question though, could somebody tell me exactly what "Nubuck" is?
Thanks
