A lot has happened in the past several years in this leather jacket business but Schott not only survived but adapted so well that recently they've started to wipe the floor with the competition. There's this, then the collaboration with the Supreme which is a big thing and then the Japan exclusive collection made in I don't even know what, possibly even Shinki from the looks of it. They're doing well and I'm happy because of that.

Schott take a lot of stick, often unfairly. I really like my 618. I do think they're over-priced new, even allowing for the cost of intangibles like brand and US-based labour costs - but to be entirely fair, much of that is down to the value of the pound dropping through the floor against the US dollar, and remaining at historic lows for getting on for four years now. I don't get the impression they've shot up in price in the US the waythey have here? (Used to be a 618 was around £400, which felt about right to me; now they're chasing Aero money for the standard range in al ot of UK places). Can't blame Schott for the strength of the dollar any more than Toyota were to blame for the strength of the Yen in the later eighties. They are doing some interesting stuff out there, which is nice to see a big brand commit to given how many in that position stop trying.

One thing I'd love to see Schott do would be a version of the Brando Durable. They've claimed the credit for making that one for so long, let's see 'em put their mouth and their money in the same location... ;)

I bought my 644 new in NYC in 2013 for $490, the same jacket (now called 641) currently sells for $775, that's pretty much 60% increase unrelated to the strength of the GBP.

I should not open TFL these days. Yesterday morning I was convinced that I will not buy another jacket until I've managed to sell some (most) of my existing collection. Today I have 2 new Good Wears and a Schott x 3Sixteen Arabica on the way. I'm not sure whether I should laugh or cry!

Ouch.... I thought Silvermans had gone buck daft selling the 618 at £799, but given the normal UK mark-up it seems that's now about right. So they're *more* than the average Aero for a UK buyer!!

WE're nothing if not enablers round here! ;)

I like this jacket quite a bit. The length might bother me a bit though. Lately I’m wearing jackets shorter and I think it’s the type III that actually made me pay more attention to length. There’s a little bit of short jacket fear/ overcompensation going on with this Schott but nevertheless, I really do like it. It’s funny but sleeve length seems much easier for me to rectify compared to body length. Constant little red riding hood with body length. Hard to find just right.

Did you buy the xl 3sixteen arabica from eBay? If so, congrats! I was watching that closely. I just bought the latest CXL 3Sixteen Schott but that Arabica had me thinking about selling it and buying the older arabica collab.

Indeed I did! Judging by the measurements it should be just the right size for me. Fingers crossed!
