Schott Perfecto Score

Thrifted this today. Size 36 (darnit) so it'll be going up for sale at some point. Can anyone here shed light on what 'vintage' it may be?..

Hello.
I would say late 80's/early 90's.
I don't remember when the bull was replaced by a biker on his bike, but it could be an indication.
I never see a YKK zipper on this before (it doesn't seem a replacement). So, it's after Talon period, and before the Schott brand name zips.
Moreover, I think that Schott snaps like yours aren't "very" old.
But i'm not sure, let specialists confirm this.

I'm no expert either, but my gut instinct as to the overall style of the jacket would be late 80s / early 90s. I don't believe the Schott branded snaps are a particularly old detail, which helps. Chunky YKK zips seem to be especially common on 80s and 90s jackets I've seen and handled.

the perfectos I've seen have either the bull (steerhide) or a horse (horsehide)... Not sure about a biker?

It's steer hide. and yes probably from the mid 80's.

That's an 80's steerhide Perfecto. They started with the current cycle logo in early 90's. Back then they used both Talon and YKK zippers.
They also made steerhide jackets with the cycle label at this days as well. The Bull is not meaning that is made out of steerhide, it's just their logo for that era.

Check inside the "watch pocket" (bikes in the 20's vibrated way too much for that era's wrist watches). Should be a tag stating style number, probably 118 or 618. 118 = cowhide, 618 = steerhide

Technically, a steer is a young, castrated bull that lives a brief existance where a cow is a female that can have a long life. Given their lifestyles, I would expect the leather from them to be different. I know my bullhide Justins are much different than regular cowhide ones.

Ah! Thanks. I had just kinda assumed that steerhide was a fancy term for cow, but that makes sense. So a steer is what in rural Northern Ireland we would have called a 'bullock' - young, male cattle that had not been selected for breeding an d consequently castrated and raised for their meat.
