Thanks heaps for the reply! I guess I

Anyone have any ideas on the cost of getting a zipper put onto the jacket? (Assuming I can find a replacement)
I've speculated that a temporary stitching repair might be possible when this happens if there's still cloth in the pin edge - using very fine carbon fibre thread and a fine needle but I've never attempted it. Both can be found on eBay. A better alternative is to find a replacement zip. You could keep the cost down by finding an exact match which would only need the pin side of the zipper replacing assuming the other side is good. It's important to use a skilled repairer who will use the original stitch holes so a not to weaken the leather (or look clumsy) or hand stitch it yourself - remember to glue or tack it in position zipped up and neat before stitching. If you can't find a new replacement see if you can find a cheap jacket on eBay with the correct zip in good condition. The size of the zip is usually stamped on the back of the zipper pull. Where to send it for repair depends on where you're based - there are similar threads with recommended repairers in the US and the U.K.etc elsewhere on TFL.
