I’m wondering if anyone here owns a Schott Horween Steerhide Belt STYLE: BLT91?

If so, would you be so kind as to give me the measurement stamped on the belt, and then measure the leather portion of the belt, and give me both numbers.

I called Schott, and much to my surprise, the woman I spoke to said she couldn’t tell me the actual measurement of their belts. She asked what size I normally wear—(32” in Levi’s jeans)—and said there would be one extra hole. I find it strange that they’re cutting the leather to make these belts… but they don’t know what the measurements are for a specific size!!

So if you have one, please let me know. I want to order one, and would prefer get the right size on the first try! Thanks.

I don't have one by Schott. But I always order larger on purpose. I usually take my pants size of 32 and add four to six inches. So I usually order a 38 belt, if they measure from the middle hole to where the belt folds on the buckle. Because I like some extra leather left over when buckled. And I can carry in waist band if necessary. If the holes are insufficient, I just punch one or two holes myself. You can use an awl or a Swiss Army knife with a reamer. You can always wear a longer belt, but a short one will force a return.

As I already said, in a discussion this guy replied to, Schott sizes these to the jeans size because so many people don't know to add inches. So in your case it would be a 32; in OP's case it would be whatever it is.

In Blatman23’s post I was simply stating that I couldn’t believe that the person I spoke to at Schott couldn’t/wouldn’t tell me what the actual measurement was. Nothing more.

Yeah, that is terribly lazy customer service on Schott's part. All they have to do is take a tape measure and do a measurement. The write up of these belts on the Schott site is also very poor. Not enough info there for a customer to decide to buy.

A lot of companies will tell you how their belts are measured. E.g. from the middle hole to where the belt folds over in the buckle. R W Leather does just that. https://rwleather.com/faq
.
I was previously interested in Schott's center bar buckle belt. But they couldn't specify where the buckle was made, except that it was imported. Yeah, tell me something I don't know. Most buckles are imported. Very few buckles are made in USA these days. For 85 bucks, they can't specify country of origin for the buckle or how their belts are measured? Time to move on to another maker.

Thanks. I see from the reviews that you're supposed to just buy your pant size. But still there are opinions all over the place. One guy says they run small, so buy one size larger. Another one says buy your pant size or even one size smaller.

I suspect that's from the personal preference of how everyone likes to wear their belts. Some wear 'em on the "last" hole, with no more leather to go. Others, like me, wear 'em on the "first" hole, with all the holes remaining, so that there's plenty of leather remaining on the end. I like to wear my belts that way because it allows for in waist band carry.

So it would be smart of Schott to just specify their measurements so that people can make their own decisions. But who am I to question the way they run their business, right? I just buy my belts elsewhere.
