But, that is probably user error, not the forum's search engine. . One more question is Horween FQHH thick leather? just kidding.

Give it a couple of days...the infatuation will pass. If it doesn't, well then...sell a couple of things and parlay the money into your new jacket!
Nice looking Horween steerhide...but personally I'm not a big fan of wool lining, or the black hardware. Or the four pocket cafe- prefer just two chest pockets. And for $1130, you could have a custom made Aero cafe- in horsehide...with exactly the trim, hardware, lining and specifications you desire.

I bet @Monitor has a few Aero's. But if he likes Schotts, he likes Schott's. As a wise man said recently on this forum, it is all about "Perceived Value", which is hard define, eye of the beholder and all that.

Thanks for the link. Nice one. But sadly, I've had to give up on vintage Levis suede truckers. As much I love their look and quality, and heritage...the sleeves are inevitably always too short. The Type 3s especially seem to have shorter sleeves. That's why I'm particularly excited to see Aero moving towards doing some truckers...

I often wonder why Schott and Vanson don't try a bit harder with their online presence. Vanson site is straight out of 2001. Schott doesn't do much better.
My gut tells me that these companies know their customers and don't feel they need to press the issue with flashy photos or cooked up heritage. Nevertheless, I'd appreciate both of them taking a more modern approach to presenting their wares. If for no other reason than to simply see how the jackets actually look irl.

I suspect it boils down to the old law of business - they don't think it will make them more money, so why do it? My impression is that they are both brands which primarily sell through retailers and don't do much direct, so perhaps they find they don't need to push it so much themselves?

Within the EU buying from the US is an expensive hobby because you have to go through customs. Having ordered various items in the past, except for the high shipping costs I had to pay 21% of the product price (v.a.t.) plus 15e for process costs.

Plus if you return something for any reason other than it was not what you ordered or it was faulty, you will typically have to eat the return shipping charges. All mounts up: that £500 jacket could end up costing you in the region of £200 just to try on...

Or, maybe they are good jackets?

Enough people clearly believe they are good jackets at a fair price, or they wouldn't still be in business.

Certainly in terms of our niche, there's a big difference between disposable fashion items, and something designed to last aeons. It's interesting to see how many newcomers to the vintage thing - including many of the hipster kids - are attracted to the idea of long-lasting, durable products, having rejected the notion of fast-fashion.

Sometimes Google can be useful here - type "the fedora lounge [your search query]". I find that usually pretty effective.

We in the US don’t have VAT, but it sure costs a lot in shipping from Europe. I don’t know if it is just where I’m looking but, you guys seem to have a better selection in the used market for “US” jackets, or even Japanese ones.

I scrubbed my Levi’s circa 70s suede trucker jacket with Dr. Bronner’s last night, which as I recall is good for everything except global warming according to the label. But can’t read the label anymore. Put it in front of a fan to dry overnight and am now wearing it just a bit damp. I am able to stretch the sleeves and form it to my body. Probably doing everything wrong. I don’t care. Still having fun. [emoji51]

The Medium is a very, very tight fit on me, I imagine what a corset might feel like. Might be I could have gone with a Large instead of a Medium. It's basically skin tight over a t-shirt, but it zips up and everything seems to be where it's supposed to be, although I can't quite snap the collar.

The black Horween CXL Steer is heavy and thick and stiff, exactly the same stuff as Aero uses. I'd estimate it's 3 oz, but it could even be 3.5oz. It's going to take some time to break this in.

The overall impression is that it's very similar to Aero's Board Racer design, but with black YKK hardware. The zipper is excellent, works well, and is robust. The lining is good quality, nice herringbone wool tweed in the body, and something silky feeling in the sleeves, maybe polyester, rayon, or nylon, I've not yet looked closely at the label to see which.

The photos Schott use for this jacket on their website look gorgeous, but have serious color issues, or else depict a jacket that has been used enough to have developed some sun fading and patina, showing some warm brown undertones. Maybe both. But it's a black jacket.

I like this thing a lot. If everything Schott made were available in this leather, I'd definitely be looking at more of their models.

Fit pics. I think it is too small, seeing it on me, it's just too tight. Maybe it will relax if I wear it enough to break it in. Or maybe I need to size up.

For comparison's sake, here's my Aero Board Racer, bought from the sales page within the last year. Before putting on the Schott Asset, I felt like this was a bit tight through the shoulders. Now it feels perfectly comfortable. The leather on this Aero is CXL FQHH, but not as heavy as the Schott. And I actually prefer the lining, pockets, and main zipper on the Schott. But the sleeve zippers on the Aero are undeniably cooler. The BR lacks handwarmer pockets, though.

I think there's room in the closet for both, but of the two, I think I'd prefer the Schott if only it were a Large. I'm actually surprised to be saying that. It's a really good jacket.

For what it’s worth I like the length of the BR much better as well although that could partially be due to the better fit in the shoulders/body.
