Schott 275 or similiar suggestion on next jacket

I know there is a lot of expertise on jackets on the lounge and no matter how much I read or look at ebay, etsy or the classified listings here I can't seem to find the "right" jacket so was hoping somebody can maybe point me to a jacket brand/model that may fit my needs.

Was looking for a Cockpit Raider/G-2 style jacket originally targeting the Avirex version but the more I look at them the less I am impressed. Originally I liked the style due to the zip up pockets and hand warmers etc. but I have not been impressed with the leather condition on these used jackets which led me to the Schott 275 (which I currently can't seem to find any). Anyway can anybody comment on the quality of the 275 or another jacket style that may be similar. Thanks.

This site is not generally as enthusiastic about Schott or mass produced jackets, and has more of a focus on hand crafted leather jackets by companies like Aero or Vanson or Thedi.

The best G2 also known as a Raider style was made by Gibson and Barnes in goat hide but they stopped making them. Many, if not most G2's are made of lamb which is less tough and ages badly. Cockpit USA still make them but they have that awful map lining and look a bit puffy.

The key to a good bomber jacket is to get a trimmer cut (be careful with shoulder width and pit to pit measurements)- many seem to be made for overweight, middle aged guys.

Buying a jacket is a matter of getting your key measurements right, selecting a pattern that suits your build and finding a maker whose prices you are willing to pay for.

In this general style I would probably buy an Aero Happy Days.

Thanks Seb for reply. Very informative. I might have to rethink my next jacket and go back to my original search for a Vanson or wait to a G&B G2 in goatskin pops up. I do ride M/C and had some bad experience with some other jackets not fitting and having to resell them and pretty much gave up. I already have a hybrid Type 440/A-2 in goatskin and as you mentioned the G2's being lamb I really nor a fan due to the durability and aging aspects. Thanks again for your post!

To get a jacket that fits requires a good understanding of your key measurements. Jacket sizes are almost useless. It took me many jackets before I worked it out in tbe pre-internet era.
