Couldn't find this posted anywhere here using key words, so I'm hoping this isn't a repeat of a post, my apologies if it is.

I checked it out on Snopes, and like a lot of things some of my well-meaning friends send me, the story isn't accurate, but the barn full of vintage autos is real:

The true story

The story (but not the autos) debunked on Snopes

Heh, I got the "lucky find" story in my inbox some three months ago.

A bit sad it's one of those e-chainletter urban legends, really...

Apparently it's been going around since January, only now got to my neck of the woods. The story is false, but the cars are real.

"Lucky Finds" do happen, though I've never heard of a ton all at once like that. Ace (my B.F.) just got a "barn find". A 36 Ford that's been in storage. He's only the third owner and it sure is SHARP! He towed it home, polished it and, well, see for yourselves:

I'd call that a lucky find for sure!

I know where a whole barn is of old cars. They all need major overhauls but they are there.
Even had a DeSoto there last time I looked.
I know cause my honey dragged me down there and I said. NO, NO, NO.
We need an old car like a hole in the head.
One of these days maybe honey, but not today.
Not being mean but honey doesn't have enough time now for anything hardly.
So then I would have an old barn with old cars. lol

Hmm.. Foofoogal, care to share it's location? Or is it one of those "I can tell you, but I have to kill you" type of thing? Major overhauls never stopped me before ;)

No, it is in Conroe Texas.
Why would I lie about this? I am an antiques dealer. I can smell old stuff. It is genetically coded into me I believe.
I spoke personally to the man on the phone. I am not talking about ones that look like showroom. I am talking about ones that need work.

Foofoogal, you must have misunderstood my post, my apologies.

I believe in your barn find. Never doubted it. You see, generally such finds like these are kept at a hush especially if the lot contained some original 3-windows, vintage speed equipment, a legendary car that was once lost and now was found, etc. It usually involves some twisting of the arm, as the person who found it has intentions of purchasing the whole lot or has plans on weeding through it first before revealing the find, whatever the reason, etc. I've seen it a lot, I understand, as to some like myself, it is like finding the holy grail. I am not looking for showroom quality either, what really gets me going are the rusted heaps, bare bones projects out there. I really need to get back in to it, it's been too long. :)

John Shakespeare, heir to the Shakespeare fishing tackle fortune kept a similar garage/barn filled with exotic cars including Bugatti's down in West Palm Beach, FL years ago. The Bugatti Type 41 is one of the most expensive and sought after vintage cars. Shakespeare kept his rare collection, covered in dust and strewn with various parts and hardware, all cramed together in the garage with plans to restore each and every one. I believe he was murdered without ever getting on with his project.

Thanks for that photo Ms McGraw. Very nice car. All original too from what I could see.

Yeah, ask away through PM and I'll do my best to help answer the question. :)
