Safari Suit jacket

[Two Types]

This is being advertised as a 1970s safari suit jacket. However, as I remember the 1970s, safari suits didn't look this this. They tended to have wide collars, be made of polyester and be in powder blue (think Roger Moore in the seventies Bond films).

I suspect this is much earlier and, as such, could prove to be a bargain for someone wanting a heavy drill cotton safari jacket.

Nice. Very early style. The buttons particularly. I have very similar pre-WWII French jackets - probably what this one was based upon.

But if that label's original, and it looks like it is, there's no doubt as to the date - 1970s. I would guess this was a 1970s military - possibly Légion étrangère - jacket.

I'm not familiar with the maker - 'Campari'.

I would have my doubts about it being a military jacket. I would expect epaulettes on military jackets to reach right across the shoulder. The epaulettes appear more decorative than functional.

Whatever the date, it certainly exudes that 'great white hunter' look from a 1930s Tarzan film.

Really? Absolutely everything about it says military to me, even down to the apparently hurried construction and buttonhole finishing. I've seen military epaulettes in all shapes and sizes.

Well, I bought it anyway. Not sure when I'm going to wear it but I do like the look of it.

Well done. I think it has great style. If you need an excuse to wear it, simply book a holiday somewhere tropical.
