Any other comments about stacking expensive men's hats, hmmmm?

Fur felt hats shouldn't be stacked unless you use stacking rings or stack them a few sizes apart as Joedahat does.

We stack our fur felts (and even some wools) like this:

I don't understand why someone would be so greedy as to want to have that many $220 hats on display. Have one or two examples of each on show, and store the rest.

In a perfect world every hat would be behind glass but that's not reality. If it's not on the sales floor, it's not going to sell.

Do we have an area of the lounge where Vendors post pictures of their shops with descriptions, locations and sales? The vendor area isn't usually that helpful. Just curious.

On topic:
When I went down to St. Joe's, to the Stetson Outlet, they were selling regular Stetson fedoras (more recent models) stacked. Ribbons were crushed and things looked slightly shabby...but...the hats I bought, the 7 5/8+ ones on discount, were each in their own individual boxes and in pristine condition (for the most part). So...[huh]

joedahat and/or Aaron Hats - how much would it cost to buy a dozen or so pliofilm hat seperators? I presume they would also protect a hat from acids leaching out of cardboard boxes in long-term storage, so quite a few of us here would be interested. I was in a hat store in Birmingham a month ago, about 3rd & 19th (or thereabouts), and they were willing to part with some foam rings and pliofilm, as those tend to accumulate in a hat store. I realize it might not be appropriate for you to go into detail on this thread, but maybe you could elaborate in the vendor BB, let us know who to ask for when we call or how to go about obtaining those. Actually, I second Dinerman. I've started pulling my hats from hatboxes (a tip of the hat to Loungers for the incentive for starting to wear them again :fedora: ) and I've found that some of my felt and wool hats have moth bites.

So, in addition to ceder, it wouldn't hurt to be more agressive in protecting my hats. What do you recommend for ladies hats?

Pliofilm

Undertow, with the size of 7 5/8, the only size that we would ever stack on top of that would be a size 8, and as you know, not many of those around.

I believe that Sharptoys had mentioned Capas Headwear sells the pliofilm in more reasonable quantities of less than a case of 3,000. call them at 1-800-932-0257.

I ordered some small packets of dried lavender, you can find those for about $2 each, and throw one of those in the box. Cedar has a smell, so does moth balls, but lavender is a pleasant smell. I may have to pull the sacs out after a few weeks, notice that my hats take on a 'perfumed' smell, and that was not the intended result. I presume that infusing the storage boxes with lavender scent should ward off the moths/silverfish.
