Sack Suits - not so much in period but..

I was hoping to pass on some information and let out a bit of frustration at the same time. Sooo if you follow this link, river junction you'll find reproduction victorian/edwardian mail order clothes. Shirts with removeable collars and various notched lapeled vests and pants that are high wasted w/button flys and all the specs of this period of clothes. I have been waiting since christmas for 2 3-piece sack suits and have gotten nothing but attitude and non-answers from them for months about it. I have had to chase them down to find out just an approximate date of arrival and each time they seem to also lose my newer mailing address. After leaving them a voice mail that I just want my money back they called and told me the first 3rd of the order is on its way and yesterday I got a gray tweed jacket and vest in the mail from them. The quality is pretty poor I'll post pictures when I can (we moved and theres no internet at home yet). I bought these suits from them before finding this wonderful forum and Magnoli's site, I would gladly have put this money towards some of his work rather than this shoddy stuff. but I suppose there's no way to return for full money back or even close to it huh?
I do think that some old west repro stuff though can be worn as more urban turn of the 20th century/teens-looking fashions but this just leaves a weight in my heart!

Send it back and bill them the shipping. There is absolutely no reason you should take that guff from them AND get a poor quality garment. Tell them that as your reason.

hmm I will definitely think about doing this in the next few days.. I feel like I waited so long for these and I dont think I could wear them and be happy even if they were made well... the sleeves look like they were attached in the dark, the seam is at the front of the sleeve all the way down!

I'm sorry, I refuse to abide by return policies when companies like this piss me off. It's too often they get away with things like this. Usually they'll go with it to avoid bad press.

With internet companies like this you pays your money and takes your chances. The suits they have on display on their website seem like very poor imitations - even caricatures - of the original types. Look at those pocket flaps! Frankly, from this kind of site i'd expect shoddy workmanship.

I see they say are having trouble due to demand. The sweatshop can't keep up!

They are mainly a Civil War sutler rather than Old West, but the styles are still good for civilian and their coats look fantastic. They are also a recommended sutler on the Authentic Campaigner forum.

well.. I guess I was just hoping they would look of a higher quality in person as they have been around as a company for so long and seemed to 'get it' throughout their website and company motto

Meanwhile, I am going to attempt a full return & put the money towards some quality Magnoli suits instead!

Very interesting! thanks so much for the link! You guys do civil war reenactment? I have never gotten into such things although my dad is a WW2 reenactor back on Long Island. I'll probably start a seperate topic on this elsewhere but I'm proud of my ol'man because this museum, the american air power museum has been his project for many years

First, I'm assuming you paid for the merchandise by credit card company. Second - they're required by federal law to alert you via U.S. mail (not email unless you specifically opt for that) if the item cannot ship within 30 days and give you the option of a full refund. They're supposed to follow up with you every 15 days thereafter. I know - most don't. Most email with back order reports. They apparently didn't follow the rules - simply giving you a song and dance like it sounds they did isn't doing what the regulations require.

Step 1 - I would immediately call your credit card company and dispute the charge. There's another point - they're not allowed to charge your credit card until the item's ready to ship. If they charged you when you placed the order and that charge has been on your statement for a couple of months, mention that. Also mention it was shoddy merchandise and not as advertised (take photos galore!) and was returned to the dealer upon receipt and you expect problems on their giving you a refund in a timely fashion based on their actions so far. Charging before an order's ready to ship - that's one offense that can shut down their credit card acceptance in a flash. You KNOW they're going to try to charge the restocking charge and you'll have to dispute that part of the refund - I'd beat them to the punch by returning everything and disputing the charge so the credit card company is on their case. Further, you can't charge restocking on shoddy merchandise or merchandise that's not as advertised.

Step 2 - Get everything en route back to them ASAP. Certified with return receipt or the like so you can prove it was both shipped AND received. And as others have mentioned - bill them for the total order plus return shipping.
