Ah, damn, that's bad news. R.I.P. Ruth. She had such class - I love this photo (taken by the great Memphis photographer Ernest Withers) of Ruth on stage in Beale Street in the 50s:

On Hiatus. Really. Or Not.
Ruth had SUCH class...

I met Miss Rhythm (Brown) a few years ago when I was dating the assistant to her attorney and had the pleasure of hearing her sing with Little Jimmy Scott and then driving her around Washington. It was a very fun evening and she was simply an amazing woman...

And the work she did with the R&B Foundation to get performers the royalties they were due helped many of her contemporaries avoid lives of destitution. Your fans will miss you Ruth!

And I love, love, love this quote...

Brown could also tell jokes about friends like Ray Charles, whose very first band was actually Brown's touring band. Still, he apparently scoffed at Brown's suggestion that Halle Berry play her in the film "Ray." According to Brown, Charles said, "I may be blind, Ruth, but I'm not that blind!"

That's a great memory ZF. And the quote is great.

I saw Ms. Brown perform at Viva Las Vegas twice, and let me tell ya, even though she couldn't stand during her set, she had the crowd totally captivated. It was that voice, which was as strong as ever last April.

God bless you Ruth

Miss Brown has brought me so much joy over the years, listening to her wonderful voice. She had an exciting vocal style, Flat-top I would've loved to have been there in Vegas to dig her set. Charming to see that the music industry has such a strong history of ripping off artists :rage: . I wasn't aware that Ruth had been involved in campaigning to right the wrongs perpetrated by the record companies like Atlantic until I read those articles.
What a special lady.
