I loved the beginning credits with the animated grafitti in Rome. That whole brother and sister thing was really wierd. :eusa_doh:

You mean Octavian and his sister?

Yikes.

The Mithraic initiation ceremony with the bull slaughtered over Atia was good too. Bull-blood-bathing was real for this ceremony.

I think that was the Cult of Cyble, I think. But I nitpick...sorry.

Since when was Keanu Reeves in ROME?

Now THAT would have been an accent I couldn't get around...

.

Right! It's Kybele/Cybele/Magna Mater, the Great Mother of Asia Minor. I get the initiations mixed up because both cults involve bull imagery.

WOW, Mrs Doran and I just watched the final episode. We were quite impressed, quite impressed indeed -- and she likes classical themes about as much as she likes people who talk about vintage (not much). In fact, it was my favorite thing I have ever seen on TV. It even beat DEXTER. I'll be studying for my Roman history exam soon and I cannot wait to go back to the sources ... reread Suetonius, Tacitus, and so on ... I'm very excited.

John and me followed it in TV and got the DVD box for X-Mas. We loved it! And John found no fault in it. He´s so picky when it comes to historic accuracy since he studied history.

I thought the series was great from beginning to end. It's completely 100% addictive. I even enabled the DVD "footnotes" which describe the minute historical details in almost every shot.

I was sad to have it end so soon. I can't believe it didn't generate enough of a fan base to keep it afloat.

Same here. Well, Kevin McKidd (Lucius Vorenus) is in something else now. The way they ended it, he could have lived.
