That one is a show-stopper! How do you estimate the age? You mention the patina, so has it become more golden colored over time? If so the result is fantastic. The width and color of the ribbon just plain work.

In the Phillippines, fiber is obtained by stripping strands of the Buri Palm leaf into straws. The Buri Palm also supplies the fiber for Balibuntal hats. Balibuntal fiber is extracted from the stem and mid-rib of the leaf. This seems to be by source the largest supplier of fiber for ladies summer hats.

I also got one in a bamboo tube. It is some kind of 7 1/8 or so with a very large brim.

How large can they be fitted serving a 7 3/8? Any opinions?

Al Ojeda seems to think they can be stretched a bit but how much I don't know. At least there is a bit of brim to use....
