WHOOOOAAAA.....!!!!
....my Dubow Arrived...!
It is incredible !
I opened the box and in it was the jacket, neatly folded and packed in plastic. The distictive scent of HH leather filled the room and the color is ....uh...well ....indescribable....but I'll try anyway.
First some admin though:
- Paddy had this jacket on sale (20% off) as it was the last one (no hide left)
- Price was 1300-20%=1060 NZD INCLUDING shipping. Approx 600 USD/500 E.
- It is a Dubow for the Japanese market (high quality fine grain very smooth)
- The color is a tint darker red russet than on their website.
- Paddy offered that I could either keep it and get 20% off or when I did not like it, try it for size and send it back, although this would forfit the discount.
The thing is: the sleeves and jacket length were 1.5 inches too long for my liking BUT...I JUST LOVE THE COLOR!
I have a very good tailor here that assured me he could shorten both sleeves and jacket. He would take off the pockets and sew them back on a bit higher, using the original stitch holes. He'd also change the blackened conmar zip with a WW2 correct TALON zip. (from Steve aka Senicko). He'd do it all for just $100.
....A giant gamble, but Hey...gotta keep the blood pumpin'!
Anyway, as I am hooked on this color + Paddy told me this color hide (pre WW2 reddish russet brown) was finished and I'd only be able to get a custom jacket in their current regular russet color (milk chocolate brown), I let the tailor "do his thing"....huuu....SCARY!
Well the results are AMAZING!! The tailor is a PRO and did not lie! The only visible thing that gives this surgerey away are a few stitch holes beneath the pockets where they used to be stitched, but they are hardly noticable.
IT IS A PERFECT FIT! EXACTLY THE WAY I WANT IT! (the leather ends right at the hipbone)
As my camera died a few weeks ago, I had a buddy of mine take some pics.
They just don't do the color justice.
I'll get some better + close up pics when I buy a new camera.
For now ...Look at:

and......enjoy!
WHOW what a jacket!
The leather is thick, but light weight and supple, however it sits on me like a house. It needs some serious breaking in. I have been wearing it daily and sleeping in it nightly for the past days now, but I need a lot of harder wear I gusess.
Although it slightly molds to my body, it still stands up by itself.
How long does it take to break it in?
It has not been raining yet, but that ll change when fall sets in.
I;ll get some better picas and will post on some more details later.
For now: THANX to all guys on the forum that helped me get my dream on my back!
