I managed to snare this beauty while looking for leather working tools in an antique and Militaria shop near me. As the heading states, it’s a Real McCoys B3 size 46 which cost me $200 Australian! Couldn’t believe the price and it fits me like a glove. It’s pretty much mint with only a slight whiff of “Antique shop”. The hide is incredible and it’s surprisingly comfortable for such a big jacket.

I know RMNZ are no more in New Zealand but when did they close that operation? Would anyone have An idea how old this might be?

Santa came early. I love stories like this, you just never know what is out there !
Fantastic , looks like a Fenland jacket, worn in so 10 to 15 years old ?
Would have cost about 1500 usd. RMNZ closed in 2015/16.
Will you get much wear in Australia ?

Xmas certainly did come early! I can’t understand why I got it so cheap as I would imagine the shop owner, being an antique/Militaria specialist would have researched it, I’m not complaining tho!

I see from doing my own research on here that you are a big fan of the RMNZ brand and I can see why. I did have a couple of Eastman B3’s which I found in similar circumstances last year. Beautiful jackets but the hide and finish on the Mccoys leaves them in the shade.

You say it’s a Fenland jacket, I assume thats the tannery?

It’s a pretty warm jacket for Australia but I live up in the Victorian goldfields (Ballarat) where it’s pretty nippy in winter. I’m also originally from Edinburgh so it will be handy when I go home in winter. I suppose if I don’t get the use out of it I can move it on like pretty much every other jacket I’ve owned!

RMNZ exclusively used the Fenland tannery until it closed, then they used South African Merino from Colymer.
I used to be of the same opinion about RM and ELC, but have come to realise that Eastman patterns are a better fit. The RM B3 has great skins but seems very big in the chest and small around the waist.
The RM belts though are really heavy duty like an original.
Great jacket.

I've looked in a lot of shechty 2nd hand and militaria shops to fine these jackets Peacoat.

The fella who sold me the jackets I found last year said that his customers want original militaria not repos and the general public wont (generally) spend $1000 on a second hand niche market jacket.

Long may it stay that way here in Ballarat!
