It took me too long to make up my mind, but I finally ordered the Comfort Craftsman in whiskey two days ago from bootsonline. Everything I read on the softness/lack of durability of the leather sole finally made me decide to go with the CC, rather than those beautiful brass screws. Now to wait. I expect that they should arrive sometime in early to mid-February.

Just arrived: RM Williams Comfort Craftsman (size 12 H) in claret. Picked up from the Bond Street, London store yesterday.

They've been coated in Saphir Medaille D’Or Rénovateur. Have yet to be polished. Think I'll walk them in for a few days first. The claret Medaille D’Or cream will be arriving soon.

The last two pics are with the claret boot centre, flanked by EXACTLY the same boot in black and whiskey (for colour comparison).

I got them to go with my cordovan Aero "Veste de Rallye" - Heavy Front Quarter Horsehide jacket. The whiskey just didn't look right.

Once I get to four pairs of RMW's , that'll be enough. Any more would be obscene

Those are sweet RMs in colours like whiskey and claret that you don't see normally. The leather chit samples they show you in the shop just don't recreate the beauty of the finished product. Fabulous and make me proud to be an Aussie.

A very good point was made (can't remember where), that the sleeker, rimless, screwed soles, could leave the leather exposed to damage. So, for a first pair of RMW's, I'm convinced that you've made the right choice.

I've also found that the quality of leather can vary between boots. My black and whiskey polish up to mirror shine. However, the claret do not respond in the same way, despite my applying exactly the same method. The leather on the claret appears to be less smooth to sight and touch.

After much experimentation, the Medaille D’Or Renoveteur & Medaille D’Or Wax (No. 53, Juane Cire/Wax Yellow) with the occasional coat of medium brown wax is what I now use. Regular application of a dark wax might eventually rob the boots of their unique colour.

Enjoy your boots and please do post pics.

Yes, I've always found it impossible to imagine a finished product from sample swatches. I've no idea how customers are able to order bespoke suits, after being shown lifeless samples of cloth. Luckily, the RMW store had whiskey & claret MTO boots, in-store and waiting for collection.

I started this thread, with the intention of showing how claret RMW's are a perfect match and style for cordovan Aero. After a few weeks of wear, I'd absolutely stand by that statement. Whiskey RMW's and cordovan Aero do NOT cut the mustard.

I love bootsonline so far. I ordered on the 26th, and got the automated email within seconds (of course). I didn't expect to hear from anyone for at least a month, and I didn't expect my order to even be considered until after the 1st.

The phone rang this evening and, after a short delay, a friendly Aussie woman's voice greeted me, discussed the durability of the composite sole over the leather sole, confirmed my order, and re-explained the process and timing of the transaction.

I've heard bad things about the communication of other sellers of RW Williams gear, who sell for a bit less. I'm happy to spend a few extra dollars to be able to say, so far, so good. :)
