I watched it on On Demand over the weekend and I was disappointed

Loved the hats and Eve Arden, though.

I can understand your disappointment. It is a total fluff-piece of a movie. You can't watch it expecting to see a movie in the same league as Casablanca. But, having said that I can enjoy a movie for being light fare and eye candy as well. For those reasons, I really liked this movie.

I prefer fluff movies to movies like Casablanca so that is definitely not why I disliked it.

I just can't get into 40s and 50s musicals. They don't speak to me and grab me the way 30s musicals do.

And 30s musicals are the fluffiest of the fluff! I think that's why they are so wonderful. I'd take a Ruby Keeler or Dick Powell musical over a 40s or 50s musical anyday too. But, I still really enjoyed Cover Girl.

Busby owns my heart. His 1930s output is as close to perfection as anything can get. Yes, it's fluff, but he's got heart & humanity lurking in the background of every scene and musical number. I think the 40s and 50s musicals (at least the ones I've seen) just didn't have that heart that I look for. They left me empty.

That's an all time fave of mine! (well, and anything with Gene!) But, am I the only one who notices that sometimes her makeup looks a little dull at times? It's like there wasn't enough concealer to brighten her up under her eyes.

I just watched Cover Girl on youtube - this is really an animated fashion show, not much of a story but awesome clothes and hair. Quite inspirational.
