I had the idea of asking my hatter if he can use extra ribbon material to tie an actual bow tie and then stitch it into the fedora. Has anyone tried this? Got pics?

Or you could ask your hatter to tie the ribbon into a Windsor knot, let the ends extend to the edge of the brim, and then cinch them down there with a tie tack.

Just pulling your leg, Alon. I like your out-of-the-box thinking.

Here's an idea- for the Western look, why not try some of that ribbon
as a dress tie-Western-style, with the two ends hanging down, after a
sort of bow at the neck...could get some great contrast/complimentary
color going with a hat...
hmmmm......anybody got any photos of such a thing??

Alon, Your basic question sounds like you feel that the usual ribbon bow treatment isn't really a bow (just a facsimile), and you would like something a bit more substantial (which would communicate "quality" to you).

The reason hat bows are made the way they are probably has as much to do with weight as it does with "cost saving." When men wore their hats all day, and sometimes into the night, a weight difference of just a gram or two could make quite a difference in the comfort of the hat. :)
