As time goes on I hear much fewer comments in the negative and much more of "great tie" and "nice hat". I see more cheap fashion hats and I wonder if this is giving the general public a greater appreciation of quality modern and vintage head wear and accoutrements. Sorry to go off topic like this but I do tend to ramble given ANY opportunity.

"Are you in a play?"

"All the world's a stage -- and all the men and women merely players."

"Oh."

Thank god someone else gets this one when they're out and about.

"Are you in a play?"
"Yes."
"Oh?! What play?"
"A very serious one, thank you for asking. Now, I'll take 4lbs of ground chuck - split in half - and two pounds of slab bacon, please and thank you."

Then they look at you like you're the biggest disappointment in the world; like you've told everyone else your secret but you're holding out on them because they're working behind the meat counter/sandwich counter/cash register/car wash/bike shop/bookstore...

(If I weren't immediately labeled a terrorist, I'd make up a convincing ID and flash it to people, "FBI. Now can I please have that tuna melt?")

I like the people hear. I do not fit too well in your "subcultures" so I lurk mostly. But the people here remind me of when I was young, and stayed with my grandparents in the summer. Now that was retro and I loved. So I will lurk, listen to good stories and remember those good times. Thankyou.

Good to see a lurker posting! Glad you're tuned in! ;)

My favorite response when people comment to me at work is "They found me in the attic when they were renovating." Or when they ask me if I'm a Mennonite, I say "No, I follow the traditional ways of my people."

Reminds me of a group meeting we had with the principal of my son's school.
She said that they are going to have a chance to dress in their traditional garb. I said:
"Where does that leave the regular white guys? We come in dressed in a suit and tie?"
My Mexican friend nearly died laughing. :p

Thank goodness this thread IS still going!
Those of us with very limited technology only get online once in a blue moon!

I dunno why, but that made me laugh really hard!

I would say that we are retrophiles. It sounds cool and kinda sexy.

Had a conversation at work today, referred to my friend as being old. (He was born in January '90 and I was born in November '90) and his response was that I'm an 'old-thinker' that I think like an old person. That's a new title I haven't heard before.
