That's the "Long Horn" crease ...
I think this is a fascinating thread and hope it stays alive. Is the modern HATCO Resistol OR sold anywhere except the LBJ Library?
They had them at the Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas when I visited a few years ago.
And they do sell them online: https://www.lbjstore.com/all-the-way-with-lbj-lbjs-open-road-resistol-hat.html
Keep in mind that other than the modern day 6X OR being sold thru the library & museum, Johnson had no known association with Stetson. In your mind as you date the OR in the link using the same methods for dates that we all use, keep in mind that Johnson died in 1973. Narrows the window of opportunity considerably. Anyone can buy an OR off the shelf. No special stamping, no real COA, as always Buyer Beware. There's an ebay listing now with a hat supposedly from the stash LBJ would give to guests. It's an OR though, not the LBJ hat the OP posted about:https://www.ebay.com/itm/Lyndon-B-J...168213?hash=item56f34e1555:g:y1IAAOSwQuFgGwox
Taken on Election Day, Nov 1964 at the LBJ Ranch this pic likely shows both the Resistol Lyndon B. & the Resistol LBJ/Wide Country.I can't help but think that the Resistol OR I see in pictures of LBJ had a smaller brim that the Stetson. Or perhaps this is an illusion?

The brim of Johnson's hat would appear to be a 2-3/4" BE making it the Lyndon B, based on the San Antonio perhaps & available in 3X & 5X.

Humphrey's hat would appear to be the Resistol LBJ with it's 2-1/4" BE brim & blocking of the Wide Country. It was likely given to him for the photo op upon his arrival.

& RE is raw edge.I see. It looks as thought the modern Stetson OR are much closer to the San Antonio, if not the same in measurement. Here's a vintage example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/ORIGINAL-1...-SELF-CONFORMING-WESTERN-HAT-15-/264396375674
I wish we could still buy the 2_14 Resisitol that Humphrey is wearing (Wide Country). I love the look of that hat! Perhaps LBJ has been photographed wearing that because that's the smaller brim I mentioned. Here's a vintage example:https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Re...459532?hash=item4b534330cc:g:H5QAAOSwu~5b006l
I'll have to keep my eye out for a vintage 7_18.
Finally, forgive me, but what do you mean by "BE", as in "2-1/4" BE brim"?
Thanks for the info!
Damn, second place again!Est: $5,000 - $7,000
Sold: $9,000
please find some pics and the story of my LBJ 7x Resistol as wished in the other thread
According to the seller this beauty was a present from Lyndon B Johnson to Dr. Dankmar Seibt, part of the German delegation under chancellor Ludwig Erhardt visiting the US end of 1963. The initials in the hat band though are DL and not DS. Maybe a typo or the delegates swapped hats. Anyway love this beauty with history and wear it to special moments, last time for my son‘s wedding View attachment 501186 View attachment 501190 View attachment 501191 View attachment 501187 View attachment 501188 View attachment 501189
Curiouser & curiouser. Do you know the dates of the 1963 delegation?…present from Lyndon B Johnson to Dr. Dankmar Seibt, part of the German delegation under chancellor Ludwig Erhardt visiting the US end of 1963.
It was December 29th, 1963 according to the https://texasarchive.org/2009_00558Curiouser & curiouser. Do you know the dates of the 1963 delegation?
Many many years ago I had that photo with LBJ with the dog in his lap, not sure whatever happened to it. I was a 5th grader and decided I wanted to write my state report (I lived in WA) on Texas and wrote to Lady Bird asking if she could send me a photo of the her late husband and she wrote me back (I was so surprised!!!) and enclosed a copy of that photo. The honorary guest for the BBQ has arrived.
