Try reposting your photos. They didn't take the first time. I'd like to see your hat.

Most of what I have collected and wear on a daily basis are Western hats, I had a couple of Fedoras many years ago, and have just started to re-enter the vintage hat scene. I lost out on another Stetson tonight, 2nd in the past week. Oh well, I will keep trying. I like this Lawton, just wish the brim was wider. Other than that, it is a super lid.

Thanks Dog

Most all of the westerns have been daily?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s at one point or another. The grey has been boxed for several years as has been the Stetson straw. I wear the 60's 4X daily at the ranch and the 20X black felt or 8X natural during the winter and the 10X straw in the summer. The 100X and 200X straws are for evenings out or special occasions. Last but not least, the Lawton, who knows. It is a different feel that?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s for sure, and the smooth finish of the hat, I probably would only wear it for very special occasions. The band is not stamped kitten finish, but the feel of the hat is so sooth. I am guessing it is a 50's hat, but have no idea. Maybe someone will have some of the answers. Thanks for your response, and have a great day.

Well, I think I can help a bit. Resistol discountinued their dress hat line in 1968 when HCA or HatCo bought them out and decided that they would only produce cowboy hats from then on. So your hat is definitely pre 1968.
The configuration of the hat and the logo leads me to place it somewhere in the late 1950s early 1960s. That would be my best guess.
They were still making great hats then so you got yourself a nice hat there. I have a Resistol Kitten Finish that was part of a lot of hats I bought. I was not too keen on it at first but it has proven itself to be quite a trooper.
Does that hat still say Byer-Rolnick on the liner?

Regards to all,

J

Thanks JP

It does have Byer-Rolnick on the liner under the crest. The hat does not appear to have ever been worn prior to me. I have been wearing Resistol hats for 30 years or more, but this is the first Resistol dress hat I have had. I had been told they discontinued them, but did not know the year. I am used to a wider brim, so I am not sure if I like the look. I have tried to pick up a Stetson fedora twice in the past week, but lost out on both. The first was the camel colored Stetson that the fella cooked the band on and last night I was out and couldnt monitor a Steson Playboy II, and lost out on it as well. My ship will come in one day, so I will keep looking.

Byer-Rolnick tells you that it was made before the company sale so pre-1968 for sure. It is no wonder you never saw a dress hat. They haven't been made for 37 years. ;)
If you are not sure about having a narrow brim then make sure you stay away from the 1960s Stetson Playboy. Those are nothing like the original Stetson Playboys from the 1940s into the 1950s. The Playboy II and the Whippet II are both stingy brim hats that I just can't take a liking to. You might have just been lucky on both losses. :p What size are you? This is the playboy you want here:

I got really lucky a week or two ago. Found a Stetson The Floridian for $40 buy it now in 7 5/8 long oval no less. :cheers1: I am wearing it as I type this. It has an Open Road like block but it kind of grows on you. The side dents are not all the way to the side---more forward than the Open Roads. I will see if I can get a picture up tonight.
Enjoy that Resistol. Even with a narrower brim than you are used to, it is still a good looking hat that deserves a place in any collection. :cool2:

I wear a 7 1/4 or a 7 3/8 depending on the hat. Most of the time I will buy a 7 3/8 and put a piece of foam behind the band if it needs it. I have been looking at the Akubra hats as well.

It looks very much like the same model. The box is different than mine. Mine is a black and white cloth looking pattern on the bottom and the lid is black. The entire box is flat rather than glossy like yours. Might be the difference in what year they were made. Maybe JP will have some insight into that. Nice looking hat, he should enjoy it.

Hmmm... Post a picture of your box. I would be interested in seeing it. I am not at the house that has my old Resistols this evening. I don't remember what the older ones look like now. ;)

regards to all,
