I will have to start annoying everyone with the use of these...

But do we really need smileys & icons for congratulations, happy birthday, happy anniversary, good luck, etc.? I see it, in a word, tacky and something akin to taking a sheet of notebook paper and slapping on some stickers because, while it's someone's birthday or whatever, I just don't want to take the time to go buy a real card or better, write a personal note of celebration to them. I want to show them I sort of care, but just can't expend any time or effort in the greeting.

"Smileys - when you care enough to not want to waste the keystrokes typing out Happy Birthday or whatever to an electronically-connected "friend"! It's too important I save myself those three seconds of time."

Not that I'm trying to rain on anyone's parade...
