Well, I've seen belts using all kinds of different materials including vinyl, fabric, etc.. I tend to use a thinner leather. I've also seen belts where the shapes were "inlaid" into the belt by cutting them out.

I use lightweight extra leather I have laying around. Here's another I started this weekend using hair on hide inset. I only have a little time left in it, but I'm just so busy. Will start myself a Horsehide and Cordovan one this weekend...should be fun.

That is more of what I was expecting. My first thought was of tooled leather belts with big buckles. Tooling leather is fun, and effect when you stain it after you are done is great.

The inlaid technique looks interesting, but would give me a little worry about it weakening the belt in the long run. Do you have an examples of tooled belts you've made?

Nice belt Marineabilly! Would love to see yer cordovan project when you finish it...

I've had, as us Limeys say, another bash (quite literally!) with two more very small projects. I lightly embellished a plain black leather wristband I found on Ebay for a coupla quid, which has even got a roller buckle on it, to match a belt I've already got. I also embellished a tooled loop I picked up so it matches the hair-on-hide belt I put together, adding a key from an old '50s suitcase as a fob...

Well, it kinda matches! :D

Hello to everyone I introduce myself: My name is Alessandro and I am Italian 38 years old.... rock and roll is my life ... I also recently started making belts (inspired by Matt and Marinebilly).
I bought the studs and buckles on eBay and I tried to create something (here is the link http://slago73.blogspot.com/ of my blog).
They are the first creations (in fact you please judgments) are not up to the work I'm seeing on this blog. If you were kind enough to explain some technique I should be grateful there .. I'm inventing as.
As soon as possible to put the detailed photos of each belt and pictures of new creations.
If I may put the link of the vendors that I found on ebay and from which I take the studs ... maybe if possible you could also do it ^ _ ^
Pardon my English ...

That's a kool cuff, Vic!

Hey, Slago, nice of you to join us! It looks like we both had the same idea and influences! Your belts look great, I think you must have got the jewels from the same Ebay vendor as me, and your toolkit looks familiar, too... :D

I'm just starting out, really, and also have a lot to learn from the likes of Mattfink and Marineabilly – next, I'll be putting together a mid-brown tooled belt, am just thinking about the design, probably go for the squares and circles of studs, centered with jewels... keep posting on your blog!

Hey Slago, all the projects I've done so far are pictured in my post above...

Nice shots of your stock boxes on your blog – where did you get the 'empty' jewel mounts and loose jewels from?

No one has created anything new to show us?.
I made 2 more belts these days it based on classical models: one with the "s" reversed, and the one with the arrows. Soon I'll put the images so the teachers will give me an opinion!

Sorry, Slago, been really busy – dental surgery, lots of DJing, new job! I have embellished a belt and a guitar strap, both quite lightly, but haven't had a chance to try and get pictures yet... off to the Norton Records 25th bash in Brooklyn... thanks for the offer of sharing your sources for supplies, I'll message you when we get back! Better take some painkillers and get some sleep, emergency dentist appointment tomorrow, then second day of the new job, followed by off to Brooklyn! :eeek:

Superb! I had seen pictures on your blog! The portfolios that you create are really beautiful and original ...
I'd like to know the techniques you use to create your belts ...
Do not know if you looked at the belts that I created ... I need someone to tell me if I'm doing things the right way.
