Went for the first time to the MISTER FREEDOM store on Beverly Blvd. in Los Angeles. Mind-bogglingly great. Best selection of vintage French 1920s-'50s menswear I've ever seen -- and most of it is deadstock with tags. Plenty of deadstock spearpoint collar shirts (at $300+), which --I'm pleased to report-- look a lot like ReVamp's 'Duke' shirt. Deadstock corduroy carpenter jackets and trousers, too (like the cord pants Leonardo DiCaprio wore in "Titanic"): $700 each.


As for the repro stuff ... IMO, it's second to none. As close to the real thing as anyone could hope to get ... and the prices reflect it.


And those MISTER FREEDOM flat caps made with vintage wool? At $200 a pop? They're almost all sold out already. Sizes in the medium and medium-large range are pretty much gone.

The well-intentioned folks at Speedway are killing me. I should have my replacement cap very soon, but have now been charged a second time for single order - this time at a discount for the shipping - but without a refund to even things out.

Thanks for the review Marc. I am luck I wear a 48 size jacket so their clothles are way too small for me.
But their caps fit great. They do make great stuff thou. High quality and fast service too.

absolutely ludicrous prices for basic French deadstock garb which is picked in provincial France for peanuts.
five years ago you could get the same corduroy jacket or trousers at Portobello market in London for £75 ($115) each.

and his repro trousers are all too low rise.

Agreed. Those prices are hilarious! French workwear at sky high prices.... what a joke! So easy to get over here in the UK!

But not so easy to find over here in Los Angeles, California, U.S.A. In fact, it isn't available anywhere else in L.A. nowadays, and hasn't been for years. ("American Rag Cie" used to import the stuff in the '80s and early '90s, but stopped long ago -- and its prices were expensive too.)


I agree that the prices for those cords are excessive, but consider this: the store's owner has to travel from Los Angeles to France, has to go all over France to find the stuff, and then has to get it shipped to Los Angeles. He does all the hunting and makes all the arrangements himself. No easy (or cheap) feat for a small business like "Mister Freedom".
