I have to say that, since Levi's Vintage's almost 100% price rise after their relaunch, I just can't conscience paying over £200 for a pair of jeans. If I could, I'd most likely go for Stronghold or one of the other artisan marques.

If it's 1930s-style work jeans you're after, the Cheap Monday Cowboy model, which are pretty close to the Lee cinch-back Cowboy, are a very affordable choice. They have a high rise and a nice selvedge on the inner seam, too...

A quick web search showed that Sivletto currently have them on sale for $80 / E60 here.

I got a pair off Ebay for £30 and couldn't be happier – I'm wearing 'em right now, in fact! :D

Again, you can order the LVC stuff from Cultizm.com from the U.S. with no VAT...right around the same price IF it were available readily here in the States. Only in CA can you find it everywhere....

Yep, that's a tough jean. . Bought it, but gave it to a friend cause these were a fraction too short for my tastes.. cannot say anything about how they fade etc... The selvedge on the inner seam is a cool detail..

Does anyone else find the rear pockets are placed too low on some of these jeans?
I hate having to reach back and down to access the rear pocket on my 201s. That hip-hop inspired look is blah..

That's just AWFUL! Talk about missing the point! :D

I've only found the back pockets on workwear jeans to be too low if I try and wear 'em anything below navel-high which, after all, is the correct waistband level for their cut.

BTW, anyone seen the new Mister Freedon range (not that I'll ever be able to afford anything from it)? Looks likely that we'll be seeing French workwear repros from RRL > J Crew > Gap at some point, if developments in US-style repros over the past year are owt to go by. Y'know, the trickle-down effect!

I love it. I'll probably never be able to afford any of it either but it's a truly inspirational collection.

Any pics of these being worn? They look odd in the above Sivletto picture. Maybe because he is wearing them wrong.

Also, are these jeans unsanforized? What was the shrinkage like?

It looks like he may be wearing them too low and/or wearing the wrong size.

Alternatively, maybe the cut is odd: the pockets appear to be located too low, the yoke too big, the cinch too low.

Many apologies for the late reply, been a mare of a week - mother-in-law is at death's door... :(:(:(

Yeah, unfortunately, we still don't have a digital camera so I can't take pics. The shots you'll see by putting "Cheap Monday" and cowboy into Google image search are all similar to the one I posted as an illustration, i.e. some model wearing 'em in an unbecoming manner, but they'll surely appeal if you like Lee 101 cowboy, Levi's 1920 201s/1933 models or anything that halfway between a 'normal' cut and an ultra-high-waisted workwear style. I haven't washed my pair (I usually give it a year or more) but the denim is conforming nicely, even though it's not really, really stiff, it's quite a soft but substantial weave, with the 'weft' going horizontal as opposed to vertical which, along with the inner seam selvedge, makes me think that they're gonna actually look pretty darn nifty the more I wear 'em.

One word, though — the inner leg measurement is s'posed to be 34" on mine but they're actually around 32 1/2", which makes me feel that Cheap Monday reckoned on folks wearing 'em in a baggy-crotched manner, as opposed to pulling 'em up to proper rise height. Prolly won't affect those with shorter legs or if you don't want turn-ups/cuffs... They're just right for me, and it's actually a bit different for me not to wear cuffed jeans, which I usually really like...

Hi all,

Just to chime in about the selvedge LVC'S I believe that they have them at the malibu Levis store as I was told by a worker at the santa monica store. I havent been out there yet so I can't vouch for sure. Cultizm is a good bet iv'e ordered from them before. Coincidentally I have 2 pairs of selvedge 501's (not lvc) that im thinking of parting with
