The (orange) RRL cardigan itself looks cool but there is the brand name all over the patches. Deal breaker for me. :eusa_doh:

what's impressive is that each different type of patch is in itself a painstakingly accurate copy of an original. i think if you go that far you're allowed to alter the type to your own brand.
i think it's subtly done.

ideally nothing, as the collar is so thick that most jackets don't sit well on top of one, but a heavy overcoat or mackinaw can work.

Good point, they don't seem to work well with a jacket on top. Shame that 'jumper weather' is quite limited, in the UK either it's freezing or it's raining!

Flat foot, while I am not crazy about it, given the historic roots, I find a true preppy look kind of cool, although not for me. Although I did go out and find a pair of vintage timberland deck shoes like I had in high school. Love em. But there are some respectable roots and tradition involved.

As for collegiate, I do like it. BUt I kind of feel, if you are not young, or young looking, best stay away. Resortes, you look youthful enough. Of course, much of this can translate into older guy styles. Not only college kids wore shawl collar sweaters, for example. But if it is strictly college look, then I think there is an age which is just too old for it. Me, being 46, looking maybe late 30s, I just don't think it works for me.

But pretty cool.

Besides that, I feel, as a Latino, I lean more towards a hipster look, more than a white upper class kid. But do dig the look.

Agreed on the age thing but then you could also aim for the tweedy college prof look.

That is kind of why I don't dig the preppy look so much. Not that they are racist, or bad people, but it is a culture I would never have been a part of or welcome in. On the other hand, while I would consider my favorite looks to be more jazz hipster or something like that, I do love old movies of the wealthy socialites in formal wear.

As a Jew, I would have been (and was) shunned by preppies (I grew up between Rye, NY and Greenwich, CT). But that wouldn't stop me now from dressing like one if that was my thing. However, like you I feel too old to dress like I'm in college (in any era). There's something about a man dressing, well, like a man (my avatar of a woman notwithstanding).

I have found a brand that has "vintage" and "1920" written all over their page but they look just like any other H&M, GAP or ASOS line. I just found it interesting that they use their heritage fopr advertising. Is the target group growing?

"1920's" is very much en vogue currently. Of course it has little to do with actual 1920's fashion and the "inspirations" seem rather scant. The rounded collars and patch pockets give a faint and timid impression of "vintage" - the rest looks like bland "mainstream" fashion. They probably think that calling something "heritage" or "1920's" suffices to make it appear more "authentic". As always when selling an article... a good story is sometimes more worth than the item.

This actually looks like a repro CPO shirt (but wool mix). So there is some vintage influence. But not much. I still like the idea that things like that get into mainstream without people driving up the prices at ebay.
