Repairing Aero 1986 Leather Tear ?

The jacket has been repaired…
But I may seek further restoration.

Here are some photos taken by the lady who repaired it.

I will get it home and take some photos - could do with some leather treatment too as I think I’ve knocked some of the oils out whilst trying to remove the grime

I’ve just picked it up. Still somewhat damp from being washed a
couple of days ago.

As you can see the patina is something else. This is 40 years of wear from a 60 year old punk. The jacket WAS black but a lot of the dye has worn away to reveal the brown.

The repair has been made with glue and thread. It isn’t perfect. It was cheap.

I’m going to let the jacket dry and treat it with some leather feed before wearing.

Smell has gone down a bit from being handled, moved, aerated?

Cool. Got it fixed for a great price. Like Monitor said, a cheap way to get the smell down is to keep it in the sun for a few days. The leather seems dry and stiff, could use some Pecards to soften it.

Thank you! It's a bit small on the waist, I can't zip it up.
But - hopefully it will give me some inspiration to get some exercise!

At first i thought oh another stinky should i fix , is it worth it or just trash it jacket thread.
But, you love this jacket. Old smokey loved this jacket. Probably broke his heart about giving away his pride and joy.
Most folks around here have so many jackets, have graduated up the learning ladder that it’s so easy to say trash it. Why waste time and money on it. Get something better.
But this jacket has a history. It lived and was loved and it looks it.

Many here have never done that. Many never really break in a jacket before they sell it or stick it in a closet. This is not an indictment of the members, just the truth. Many aren’t old enough to have done that.
But…lots want nothing more than to buy one that has lived and loved and is where one like your fine old Aero is.
I’m an old f**k. I have leather jackets 50+ years old that fought, f**ked and survived life somehow better that i have and i still wear them some.
If i had to sell one for a song i’d probably cry too.

If it was me, i’d spiff up that old Aero, get the smell out best i could, hydrate it and “shine” it up like a fine old gold watch in all it’s glory then give it back to that old man.
He’d cry then. You too i bet and both of you’d be the better.
And when the time comes…you’d probably get it back for another go at life.

Given it a bit of treatment.
Colour has gone back to black / very dark brown.

Wearing it now to give it a bit of aeration/sun.

Will buff it up later.

I think it looks great… bit small but all the more encouragement to exercise, drink more water and cut down on the cakes

It will lighten back up eventually. May wind up a bit darker than before, but patina should still show up.

Glad you didn't; give up on this one. It' has a history & a story! My apologies that I ever tried to steer you a different direction. The smell will eventually subside, but it's his history you are wearing.
