heh. Do NOT allow yourself to be reeled in by this little trouble-maker's cutesy face! Believe me -- he has practiced that deceitful look of contrition! He's had to!

...Just out of the camera's view is a stinky large yellow puddle spreading quickly into extremely close proximity to a hat box that rests quietly under a Christmas tree...

YAAAAAH! WHY YOU LITTLE B....

Yeah, they sit there looking all cute and innocent...and then you find your brand new Allen Edmonds with chew marks, or there's doggie drool on your new hat...or the worst - the pound calls for you to throw some bail and pick 'em up after a weekend doggie bender down at Malibu...and then it's back to puppy rehab...once they start running with Paris Hilton's chihuahua's pack, it's all downhill...

Dee, as someone who has four of Art's original custom hats, I should inform you that the post office handles those packages in a most careless manner. Without exception, every one of my hats had the crease out of them. I am affraid if you wait until Christmas to open the box, you will have a hat with half a bash in it and the other side will look open crown. It will take years, if at all, to get the crease right again. So you may want to open it up and fix the crease before it is too late. (OK indycop, how was that for a good argument.):p

Nothing is worse than getting something you really wanted for Christmas and finding out it doesn't fit. The receiver and giver are disappointed and everyone has just an awful awful day. Do you really want that to happen? Do you want to destroy a never to be repeated moment again by not having so simple a problem resolved? For heavens sake, open the box and let him confirm that the hat fits properly. It's the right thing to do.

Gift Exchange!

I've got it!
Rewrap his birthday gift and put it under the tree.
Then give IC the AF Fedora as a late birthday gift! :D

OK, I know this thread is all giggles, but I'd like to briefly raise a serious point, that Art might wish to reassure me/us about.

I'm sure Mr Fawcett does a fine job of packing his hats, but is the packaging designed for a hat to sit in it for a month? Which way up would you suggest the indycops keep this box stored until Christmas, so as to lessen the chance of the hat's felt getting marked by the container holding it? Is this concern even justified?

My own experience of hatboxes is limited to my hatsdirect one, and the box my Fieldmaster was sent in, both of which were excellent for shipping, but I'm not sure I'd want to store a hat long-term in either.

I thought it was a practical point worth bringing up, whilst the hat hasn't been in its box long, and this may have already been covered in the discussions between Art and IC privately.

No worries Fatwoul, the hat is protected while in the box and is mean't to be stored basically forever without damage. Since IC hasn't seen it yet I don't want to go into much detail but my clients could share the details with you privately. I'd hate to ruin the surprise.;)
