Remembering D-Day today (in 1944)

I do believe that the majority of the German "soldiers" were not so different from Americans and were only doing a job and fighting for their country. Heck, many were probably fighting because they felt they had no choice. I don't believe that the majority of the German fighting force supported death camps and Nazi atrocities.

The human cost was great, on all sides.

I'm happy to say I had the honor of doing a living history program at Eisenhower's Gettysburg farm on D-Day, and it got some nice media coverage. (She misunderstood my point about D-Day being the 101st's baptism of fire and thus the 82nd's earlier combat jumps get slighted. Apologies.)

It's good to see so many people here from all corners of the world remembering the sacrifice given by young men and women during those dark days, whatever the colour of their uniform or skin.
