Yeah, me too.... hadn't occured to me that might be odd nowadays. I do clear out the smallest of my shrapnel into a penny jar (ones, twos, and fives); I'm currently into my third glass jam jar, and when that's full I'll take them to the counting machine in Sainsburys and spend them on something nice....

I had an older typewriter as a teenager and I'm fairly certain there was a cent key.

Same here, except that there was no cent key. I had to type a c then back space and type a / over it.

But who has not been in line at the grocery store tapping a foot while the person ahead carefully counts out exact change? Far quicker for everyone to swipe and dash.

I often count out exact change if I have it, coins are money too.
